Male Athletes Being Asked About Their Relationships Is Honestly Refreshing

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s rumored relationship has been breaking the internet for weeks, and their romance has only gotten bigger since she showed up at a Kansas City Chiefs game with Travis Kelce’s mom on Sept. 24. Since that, the entire world has been talking about Swift and Kelce, including other players of NFL teams, who have been asked the burning question, of, “Are they dating?” While I think any fellow Swiftie can agree we are totally freaking out, it’s so refreshing seeing male athletes being asked about their love lives, when it’s something female athletes and celebrities know all too well. 

If you go anywhere on social media, you will likely see a flood of content featuring Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s rumored relationship. Boosting that content is the NFL itself, who is definitely a new Swiftie. The official NFL TikTok page even changed their bio to say, “9/24/23. Taylor was here.” Announcers are even adding references to Taylor Swift in their game calls, by quoting her song lyrics: “Kelce finds a blank space for the score!” “One would think he’s delicate.” “He’s been able to shake it off.”

NFL players have had their fair share of interview questions all about Taylor Swift as well. Travis and Jason Kelce — Travis’ brother, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles — have both been asked about the relationship in pre- and post-game interviews, along with Travis’ other Kansas City Chiefs teammates. 

And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, the NFL even posted a TikTok ofTravis Kelce and other players making friendship bracelets, which is clearly a reference to Taylor Swift’s friendship bracelets at her Eras Tour concerts.

This isn’t the only “celebrity” couple currently making waves in pop culture. Alix Earle was rumored to be dating Miami Dolphins wide receiver Braxton Berrios for months. Before the rumors were addressed on Earle’s Hot Mess podcast on Sept. 21, fans were wondering whether the two were together. This summer, Berrios addressed the dating rumors in an Instagram Story posted on June 27 saying he just wanted to “move on” from the situation. I think it’s safe to say Berrios was tired of talking about his love life over his work on the field. So even though the fans are loving it, male athletes are getting tired of being asked about their love life over their sports career. 

Obviously, Taylor Swift would be the artist to come in and shake things up for the NFL. While this definitely isn’t an internet-breaking relationship that football fans have seen before, it’s such a nice break for women to see male athletes being asked about something other than their sport, so they can see when female athletes and celebrities have had to deal with in interviews all of this time.
