Lots of celebrities have their own finsta accounts — that’s nothing new. What is new is that a celebrity was called out for having one, and they had to release a legitimate statement about their involvement with said finsta. That celebrity? Channing Tatum.
The weekend of Sept. 18, fans started to speculate that Tatum had a burner Instagram account that was leaving comments under posts pertaining to his ex-fiancée, Zoë Kravitz. The account, with the handle @bidness_nonya — a creative play on words for “none of your business” — caught the attention of online sleuths after taking a closer look at the private profile. The account displays a bio that reads “I’m nosy… in private,” and has only one follower: Channing Tatum himself. On Sept. 22, Tatum released a statement on the rumors about the account, stating: “Yo I truly can’t believe y’all think this is what I’m doing with my free time. F*cking hilarious. Also why would I follow a burner account if I didn’t want people to connect me to it? Wtf come on. But if I really need to say it, I only have one IG account @channingtatum.”
Let’s go back to where the rumors started. Users noticed several comments made by the account on posts relating to Kravitz and her fiancé, Harry Styles. On a @deuxmoi post, the account commented, “Just here for the hate,” accompanied by laughing, soda, and popcorn emojis. “Ya’ll aint ‘inside’ sh*t” appears under another post about their engagement before it was confirmed. Under a post of Kravitz reading a thank you letter to Tatum, the account commented, “This is beautiful,” with a red heart emoji. Another comment shaded Tatum’s ex wife, Jenna Dewan: “His ex-wife tried to grift his money, Zoe knew she was too much of a free bird to settle down and this one is an adult. Let that man sow his wild oats in peace,” they wrote.
What also caught fans’ attention was the account’s apparent habit of hyping up Tatum, with several comments praising the actor. In an Are You Okay? interview posted on Instagram, Tatum answered rapid-fire questions. A no-longer-visible comment made by @bidness_nonya read, “He’s so genuine. No false pretenses with this guy. And funny as hell, too.” On another post, a comment read: “He is giving Shawn MacArthur from Fighting vibes,” which references his character in the 2009 film. It’s safe to say the internet went wild over this.
Not to mention, the account has also left a stream of comments on other celeb posts too, shading J. Lo, Blake Lively, and Kravitz’s close friend, Taylor Swift. But it’s not all negative. Users found a praising comment under a video of Ayo Edebiri recording for Inside Out 2. “Love her! And she’s just getting started.”
The news of this account got so big that not only did Tatum himself have to debunk the rumor, but the @bidness_nonya account released a statement as well. It said in part, “I’m aware of the conversation surrounding this account and understand the questions that have been raised. There are aspects of this situation that are deeply personal and I don’t believe it would be appropriate to discuss the private circumstances or the people involved publicly.”
While many are convinced with the evidence the account still points back to Tatum, there’s another theory making its rounds that lends some support to his claims: that the account may have originally been a fan account. The actor follows thousands of accounts on Instagram, including fan pages. The person behind the account may have previously used the page for fan-related content before clearing it out and repurposing the account, which could explain why its existing activity appears to have such a strong focus on the actor.
For now, the mystery behind @bidness_nonya remains just that — a mystery. The internet has plenty to speculate about, but no definitive proof that Channing Tatum was the one behind the account. Whether it was him, a former fan account, or simply a dedicated internet troll, @bidness_nonya has made their mark.
