My name is Mariel Kavanagh, and I’m a Health reporter at Her Campus Temple. I also work at The Temple News and Templar Yearbook as a Copy Editor. At The Temple News, I edit and fact-check all Opinion, Sports, and Investigations stories. At Templar, I edit two to three articles per cycle to ensure AP Style, along with fixing grammar and punctuation.
I graduated from Lehigh University in May where I double majored in Political Science and Spanish and Hispanic Studies with a minor in Mass Communication. I’m now pursuing my Master’s in Journalism at Temple University. During my time at Lehigh, I spent three years at The Brown and White, the student-run newspaper, working my way from a reporter to Editor in Chief. I covered breaking news, campus issues, politics, sports and more, while also photographing the stories I reported.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy reading on my Kindle, specifically true crime novels, and you can usually find me with a cup of hot chocolate in hand as well. I also love trying new breakfast spots in Philadelphia and exploring the city.
