After a very cold winter, we are long overdue for deep cleaning. And I don’t just mean tidying up here and there. This time of year is a great time to better yourself, revamp your space, and organize your life.

Find your routine

Winter can make you feel down and foggy, making the days difficult to get through. Take back your life by adding structure: wake up early, eat a good breakfast, and start your day off right. It’ll help you feel energized and ready to have a productive day every day. Of course, taking breaks is also important to self-care, so make sure you make time for yourself to relax and reflect.

get outside

One of the best times of year is when the sun starts to shine again, the plants grow back, and we can all ditch our heavy winter coats. Soak it all in and move your office for the day, walk to your classes, or go hammocking on the quad. It’s a great way to connect with nature and decompress after a stressful day of classes.

Add more color to your life

From decor to diet to fashion, adding color to your life can improve your health and overall happiness. Studies show that bright colors often influence psychological processes, such as increasing serotonin (making you happier), and improving memory abilities. Spice up your room or home with bright accent pillows and fresh flowers. Eat more colorful produce for an insta-worthy healthy meal. Bright colors are in this season, so break out hot pinks, blues, and greens to add a pop of vibrance to your outfit.

spring clean (literally)

Your surroundings can greatly influence your mood and ability to stay productive. Having a clean space will encourage you to get active and finish your daily tasks. Even simple things like making your bed every day can help get you out of that winter slump, and make you feel happier in your own space.

self-care

Taking care of yourself is one of the most important steps in spring cleaning your life. Making sure that you are feeling good mentally and physically will make getting through your busy days easier. Try to get active every day by going on walks, doing a peaceful guided meditation in the morning, or (if you’re up for it) go to the gym and do your favorite workout. I’ve also found that finding a skincare routine that works for you is life-changing, and it can make you feel like a whole new person with loads of newfound confidence.

All in all, just remind yourself that you’re doing great, and take time to treat yourself and take breaks here and there. Everyone is different, so find your groove and do what makes you feel the best in your own skin. You got this!
