There are many health benefits to all different kinds of teas. There are so many types that you probably haven’t even heard of half of them! Here are ten basic benefits of tea, along with specific benefits of some of the most common teas college students drink.

Tea

1.  is high in antioxidants.

2.  has zero calories.

3.  speeds up your metabolism, helping you burn fat faster.

4.  helps calm you down.

5.  makes your skin look better.

6.  boosts your immune system.

7.  can help you sleep at night.

8.  is a great replacement for coffee.

9.  can be drank hot or cold.

10.  contains caffeine and theanine, which affect the brain and heighten mental alertness.

Black Tea

·  has the highest caffeine content of all teas.

·  has polyphenols (a type of antioxidant) that stops bacteria (that cause bad breath) from sticking to your teeth.

·  stops belly fat from forming before it starts.

·  lowers blood pressure.

Ginger Tea

·  ginger is an anti-inflammatory agent.

·  reduces inflammation in the brain in the same amount of time that asprin takes to work, so it can reduce a headache if you drink it at the onset of the pain.

Green Tea

·  contains antioxidants to prevent some cancers.

·  prevents the clogging of the arteries.

·  burns fat.

·  lowers cholesterol.

·  positively affects the tissues of the eyes, especially the retina, to help you see better.

Herbal Teas

·  promotes weight loss.

·  get rid of colds.

·  help you sleep better.

Peppermint Tea

·  cures constipation.

·  speeds up gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

White Tea

·  promotes weight loss.

·  contains potent polyphenols.

·  may protect against some cancers

·  prevents wrinkles and skin aging

These teas’ benefits are only significant when the tea is made from boiling water and a teabag or with loose tea. Tea tastes great “black,” without any milk or sugar. It tastes even better knowing you aren’t putting any calories into your body.

A packet won’t do you much good, especially with the added sugar. Instant tea may contain many sugars or artificial sweeteners and very little amounts of actual tea. On that note, steer away from lattes, too. Though a green tea latte sounds delicious and nutritious, it is misleading with the added fat, sugar, and lack of tea leaves.
