Kick into Gear at ‘Kardio Kick’ with Ron

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

If you’re ready to get in shape for the summer try Kardio Kick with Ron on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in Temple’s IBC. This fifty-minute fitness class will get your heart racing and is guaranteed to make you sweat. Even though the class is just under an hour, you’ll do plenty of moving to get that full-body workout. Ron keeps a high energy level throughout the class and encourages everyone to keep moving.

To warm up, Ron starts with some simple exercises like high knees and jumping jacks, often encouraging everyone to keep tempo with the song. Then he incorporates some punches and japs. As far as intensity goes, the warm-up isn’t too difficult, since it focuses a lot on the arms. After some punches, jabs and push-ups, be ready to feel the burn.

“At first, when I first started coming, my arms really hurt,” said a regular that attends Ron’s class, “Now, I can feel my legs getting more of a work out.”

That’s no joke – Ron really does work out your legs with tons of different kicking and squatting exercises. He doesn’t forget about the cardio though. In between exercises, you’ll run in place and do jumping jacks to keep the heart pumping. Ron’s routine is rather simple overall, so there isn’t much in terms of modifications. However, that doesn’t take away the intensity. This instructor likes to keep up the tempo and all of his songs are pretty upbeat and fast. Do your best and don’t worry if you’re having trouble keeping up with Ron (he’s had sixteen years of practice), work at your own pace and don’t push yourself too hard. There are only two sets of water breaks, but get water even if it’s in the middle of an exercise. Staying hydrated in this class is pretty crucial.

The last minute and a half of the class is the turbo workout. There’s a lot of jumping and running, so it’s a nice way to finish strong. Overall, this class requires quite a bit of energy and you’ll definitely feel the effects of the workout. If you keep with it though, it’s sure to get you in shape.
