20 Words Every Fairfield Student Needs to Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Everything you need to know about Fairfield from A to Z.

  1. Prez Ball: Only the most fun night of first semester! Think of it as prom for the whole school—you get to party like Gatsby and even take a picture with Father Von Arx…just try to make sure you don’t trip on your way up there.
  2. BCC: [Barone Campus Center] It has everything from your mail to dining options, a bookstore and printing. It also houses offices for student activities, Father Doody and your Stag Cards.
  3. Clam Jam: The greatest party…ever. Hands down the best day of the year consisting of the beach, beer and lots of music! Dating back to 1987, this is one of the most awesome Fairfield traditions there is.
  4. The Quad: Home sweet home. This is the epicenter of your life freshman year. Near Regis, Campion, Gonzaga, and Jogues you’ll often see people doing their homework (or at least attempting to), tanning, throwing a football around and being social with their peers. It’s an awesome place to meet new people your first year!
  5. Townhouses: [Upperclassmen Housing] To some it’s home, to others it’s a place to party. Either way, when you live on campus you know exactly what it is.
  6. The Village: Kostka, Claver, McInnes, Mahan and Bellarmine make up this area of sophomore and upperclassmen housing. This is an awesome place to live/visit after you’re freshman year when you’ve graduated from dorm rooms to suites and apartments.
  7. DSB: [Dolan School of Business] Home to any and all business majors and the furthest possible point on campus. If you’re living in the Quad or at the Townhouses you know this can be the most unbearable walk on days when it’s sweltering or frigid. God bless you business majors!
  8. Registration: Try not to have a panic attack. Registering for classes can be a very stressful time so try to make an appointment with your advisor, have lots of back up classes and be open to (maybe) having only one day off. You’ll get through it, we believe in you.
  9. Housing Lottery: Another highly stressful event. Lord knows it’s hard enough to decide who you are rooming with but waiting for the email with your lottery number is a whole other animal. Whatever the outcome may be just remember that your year is what you make of it, despite where you are living. May the odds be ever in your favor, collegiettes!
  10. Barone: aka Bar One or simply the cafeteria. It may not be nearly as intense as the Mean Girls’ cafeteria but getting a table can be just as scary. A word of advice, don’t show up at 6:30 with your whole floor and expect to find a table.
  11. Point Day: Ahhh, one of the many perks of living at the beach. It may not be Clam Jam, but it comes pretty darn close on those other weekends. While the weather is still beautiful you get a chance to party on the beach with your friends and the upperclassmen…lucky you!
  12. Club DiMenna: [DiMenna-Nyselius Library] This is where many Stags spend most of their time studying, especially during midterms and finals week. Equipped with a Starbucks, grab and go café options and a 24/7 computer lab, Club Dimenna is where you should be to get an A.
  13. Dolan: No, no, not DSB. This is the other Dolan and the other furthest point on campus. It’s one of the upperclassmen options for housing for four, six or if you are crazy enough, eight people. Just watch out for ghosts!
  14. Naut: [The Floating Nautilus] The Naut which used to be a famous Fairfield bar was eventually closed and in order to keep the tradition, Fairfield seniors hold what is called the Floating Naut. Each Thursday a beach house hosts a party known as the Naut it’s always a different location but always a ton of fun.
  15. The Brothel, The Shocker, Banana Hammock, Plan B, Big Pole: We know what you’re thinking collegiettes! Get your mind out of the gutter; these questionable names aren’t what you’re thinking! For those of you who haven’t visited yet, these are just some of the names of the beach houses that 500 Fairfield seniors are lucky enough to live in.
  16. Pub Safe: [Public Safety] I know you probably just cringed but we promise they aren’t as bad as they sound. Yes, they may have told you to pour out your Solo cup outside of the Townhouses or knocked on your door in Regis for having the music too loud but they really are here to make your experience and others a safe and enjoyable one.
  17. Cabs: The bane of your going out experience. If you’re even considering making a trip to the beach on a Friday of Saturday night, good luck. Cabs are tough to find and hard to come by. We hear that Uber is an awesome new app that makes this prior hassle nearly a breeze.
  18. The Grape: A rite of passage for all those who turn 21. Located right next to the Point, this place is most likely where you will spend many a night sipping two dollar beers on Tuesdays and dancing with your friends ‘til last call.
  19. Roommates: The greatest thing about college…most of the time. We know not all roommates are a match made in heaven but if you are lucky you’ll find an amazing group that will be by your side for years to come! “Here’s to the nights you can’t remember with the people you’ll never forget”…or something like that.
  20. Her Campus: Your number one source for all information Fairfield. We work to give you everything it takes to survive your four years here and have a blast! From style articles on how to dress for class to getting an internship for next semester, we want you to enjoy every moment here collegiettes! HCXO
