Simply Regal: The Three-Step Facial Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

From learning the ABC’s to Harry, Ron, and Hermione from Harry Potter, everything strangely comes in threes. Basic skin care comes in three easy steps: Cleanse, Tone, and Hydrate. And guess what? It only takes five minutes! I strongly recommend doing this routine twice a day, but in reality, our midnight study sessions make us want to fall asleep ASAP. Therefore, once a day is better than nothing! It’s best to do it right after you take off your makeup after an exhausting day.

It’s time to take care of your skin!

Step 1: Cleansing

Why do you need to wash your face? Washing your face takes off oil and bacteria on your face. The warm water opens up the pores to put the good stuff in. I use this one from Japan–its apple scent is a winner for me. An American alternative is the St.Ives one.

I use a cleansing brush because it creates foam and it feels really good on your face. I strongly recommend it if you’re acne prone. The one I have is from Japan but the Sephora one is an alternative. Another featured cleansing brush for the cat fanatics!

Step 2: Toning

Toning is important because it refreshes the skin and it makes your pores appear smaller. It feels really good when you apply it, trust me.

A lot of people use the cotton pads but I use my hands because it feels better. I use the Kiehl’s one, but honestly, I didn’t like it as much as I liked the cleanser of this product. A cheaper alternative is the Thayers one. This one has witch hazel and aloe vera which are very good for the skin.

Step 3: Hydration

Moisturizing your skin helps it function at its peak performance.

Another fact is that it has anti-aging benefits, so it makes you look Seventeen Forever. I use the Kiehl’s one, this is probably the best Kiehl’s product I’ve ever used! A cheaper alternative is the St. Ives one.

And you’re done with the basic skin care process!

The next step is up to you. You can study or go to bed after that, or you can add on other products such as this facial serum from Badgerfacebeautysupply. I love this one I’m holding especially for when I go to bed!

Finding a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer can be pretty difficult since there’s so many to choose from.

So, feel free to experiment with new products because there are always new skin products to choose from. That’s what makes skin care so interesting!
