How SoulCycle Has Changed Gym Culture

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

In recent years, SoulCycle has become the gold standard of workout classes. Women across the country have joined the movement and participated in the music-filled, mood-lit spin classes. SoulCycle has morphed gym culture in so many ways:

1. It boosts confidence.

SoulCycle reinvented the way people work out by creating a positive and comfortable environment for attendees. The studio may feel intimidating and competitive at first, but no one will judge you if you prefer to go at your own pace. There is no shortage of inspirational quotes and words in the studios, either!

2. It’s recreated traditional gym attire.

SoulCycle has revived exercise gear for the better. The athleisure trend emerged from the resurgence of spin classes, and the trend is practical and cute. SoulCycle has its own line of comfortable and functional clothes that is available for purchase online and in-store. They have also collaborated with retailers such as Target to bring stylish and versatile athleisure to all.

3. It’s brought bikes back to life.

Before SoulCycle was trendy, the only person I saw using a spin bike was my grandmother. SoulCycle has created a new market for spin classes, bikes and shoes that previously was just not in demand. Spin studios that parody SoulCycle have been featured on shows like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Broad City. SoulCycle is the original spin studio, but there have been other competitors popping up across the country since.

4. It’s made exercise fun.

Everyone who has been to a SoulCycle class can testify that the rides are undoubtedly exhausting, but extremely fun. Riders go through a series of emotions, but in the end you’re finding time to schedule your next visit. Plus, the classes are great activities to do with your friends, so grab your closest pals and head to a nearby SoulCycle studio!

HCBU is going to be heading to SoulCycle for a group ride on Saturday, November 19. Follow us on Instagram to stay updated on all of the fun! If you want to join in, find a nearby SoulCycle studio here
