Have you ever been told: “Keep your emotions bottled up! Come on dude you are a guy, how can you cry?” or something like “You are an 18-year-old girl and you don’t even know how to cook!?

‘ThatĀ oneĀ thing’Ā is theĀ oneĀ thingĀ thatĀ you feel you should not have been told about your gender. It isĀ thatĀ oneĀ thingĀ you find really problematic and are better off without.

We invited students of AshokaĀ UniversityĀ to pick up the bannerĀ ‘ThatĀ oneĀ thingĀ I should not have been told about my gender‘Ā and complete the sentence with their experience. We knewĀ thatĀ no one owed us any narrative of their experience andĀ oneĀ line probably cannot explain the impactĀ thatĀ oneĀ thingĀ might have had on them.Ā

However, we wanted to speak up because in the end, we are not alone and it is more than okay to not fit in within the rigid guidelines of society.

Hello!
I am Aanchal, a second-year psychology major at Ashoka University. I love to travel around places with a small backpack on my shoulders and create new connections whenever possible. Anime is my guilty pleasure. Expressing my feelings through writing calms me down and keeps me at peace.
