A Guide to Tackling Early Morning Classes in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Taking early morning classes in college isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be. If you go about it right, morning classes will give you a head start to your day and can boost your overall productivity. Here are some tips on how to survive early morning classes in college.

Prepare the night before.

Waking up early is hard enough, but having to prepare for the entire day at 7 a.m. is sometimes impossible. With morning classes, preparing everything the night before is a game changer.

A change as simple as swapping your morning shower to a night shower could make all the difference. By taking a shower or bath the night before your morning class, you’ll save about 20 minutes in your morning routine.

Planning out an outfit the night before also saves you a ton of time. While it may be tempting to just roll out of bed and change into your favorite hoodie and leggings, planning an outfit just makes you feel more put-together, confident, and ready to tackle on the rest of your day.

Along with putting together your outfit, you should also make sure to pack your bag the night before. It’s easy to forget things in the midst of a morning rush, so just pack everything you’ll need for the day. That way, you won’t waste time coming back to your dorm.

Pro-tip: Make sure all your devices are charged the night before so you don’t have to worry about it during the day!

Give yourself enough time to get ready.

Wake up at least an hour before your first class. Starting your day off in a rushed state of mind is not good for you, so it’s important to give yourself enough time in the morning. If you have a habit of using your phone in bed when you wake up, either give yourself more time or make sure to put your phone away from arms reach in the morning.

Along with giving yourself enough time to get ready, you should also give yourself enough time to leave for class. Try to get to class at least five minutes before it starts. Make sure to give yourself even more time if you plan on squeezing in a coffee run.

Don’t go back to your dorm after class.

The whole point of taking early morning classes is to get an early start on your day to boost your productivity. If you go back to your dorm, you’ll most likely decide to take a nap or just watch Netflix or YouTube. If you have a couple of hours in between classes, try to steer clear from your dorm and instead find a study spot on campus.

If you go about it the right way, early morning classes could make your semester so much more productive. Use these tips to turn yourself into a morning person this semester!
