It can be a lot easier to prioritize physical health over mental and emotional health. We know to be concerned if our head hurts or our nose is running. But what about when we’re feeling low? It can help to have a system of support, people you can talk to. Sometimes it can help just to know that we’re not alone. Here are some ways to be there for the people you love.

1. Ask them how they are

It’s a simple first step, but it’s important!

2. Listen

Listening to someone can be a great way to show you care. We’ve all been there, and it feels good to be heard.

3. Let them know you’re there for them

This may seem obvious. But sometimes we need to be told positive affirmations, even if intellectually we already know. Vocalizing your support and presence can be a powerful way to uplift someone.

4. Be dependable

Let them know you’re someone they can count on, and then follow through. Even if it’s just to check in.
