The new year is all about new beginnings and resolutions, so in typical fashion, I’m starting mine late. But, in the new year I decided to create a column dedicated to one of my many passions—music. Each week I’ll be curating a new, themed playlist for both Apple Music and Spotify (I’m ride or die for Apple Music, but I won’t exclude you Spotify users). To kick off the first edition of this column I’ve curated a chill playlist including songs and artists spanning various genres for when you want to sit back, relax, and unwind.

“Still Beating” Mac Demarco

Mac Demarco is a Canadian indie rock musician with plenty of laid back tunes. “Still Beating” showcases his mild-tempoed style.

“One More Love Song” Mac Demarco

A slower, bluesy track with Demarco’s silky vocals at the forefront.

“Treat Her Better” Mac Demarco

Last Demarco track, I promise! “Treat Her Better” is far more upbeat than his previous tracks with heavier uses of guitar and drums.

“Warned You” Good Morning

For those who aren’t familiar with Good Morning, they are an Australian indie-pop duo consisting of Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons. “Warned You” is from their 2014 debut EP “Shawcross” and is a sleepy pop song with breezy vocals that will have you wanting to stay in bed all day.

“Planet God Damn” Mac Miller feat. Njomza

A soulful R&B track.

“Best Part” Daniel Caesar feat. H.E.R.

Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. ‘s love infused vocals compliment this dreamy pop song.

“The Birthday Party” The 1975

The latest track from British pop rock band The 1975. “The Birthday Party” is from their upcoming album “Notes On a Conditional Form”.

“Hand Me Downs” Mac Miller

“Hand Me Downs” is a part of Miller’s posthumous album “Circles”. I really love this song and the entire album.

“Sound & Color” Alabama Shakes

This was a no-brainer to include, it just sounds so nice. It’s the perfect song for a laid-back drive.

“The Beach” The Neighbourhood

You can’t have a chill playlist without adding a song from the brooding band The Neighbourhood.

There are a total of 20 tracks on this playlist, so I won’t include every song and artist description here. But, all the tracks on this playlist are worth listening to. These are just a few of my favorite songs to listen to when I’m in the mood to unwind. Happy listening!
