5 Things I’ve Been Doing to Keep Busy During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As hard as this time has been for all of us, I find that keeping myself active and busy throughout the day really helps me cope mentally and physically! Here are five activities that I’ve been engaging in during quarantine:

Cooking

Now, I’m no professional chef or anything, but I’ve never related harder to all those memes on the internet about gradually becoming one right now! I’ve always loved food and experimenting with the foods I eat (combinations n’ all!) so home quarantining with my similarly food-obsessed family has motivated me to try to make something new every week. Although it hasn’t always turned out perfectly, I’m really glad that I stepped outside my comfort zone. So, for those of you who are interested, try NY Times Cooking for your next home-cooked delicious meal!

Music

As I’ve shared with all of you, music is my greatest passion, and has been for as long as I can remember! It’s the one thing that gives me so much peace and can elevate my mood no matter the situation. So, while I have been making new playlists on my Spotify, I’ve also been singing almost every day and I love it! Shout out to my music page @anoushka.music for your daily dose of music!

Exercise

Although my journey with fitness and working out has been an erratic one, being at home 24/7 has actually made me crave some physical activity to get my muscles going! I’ve been loving the Nike training app and Blogilates workouts on YouTube because while the app allows me to tailor my own workout routine, Blogilates has been really great for my strength training and the overall toning of my body.

Relaxing

Okay, I know this isn’t really considered to be an “activity,” but I honestly think relaxing is just as important as being productive. In fact, being relaxed and well-rested actually promotes my productivity! So, I’ve been catching up on what seems like years of lost sleep, and while waking up at 11 a.m. might seem crazy to some of you, I love my sleep and I’m not mad about it.

Cleaning

As much as I hate cleaning my closet and getting rid of the piles of junk I have in my room, being cooped up at home has literally left me with no choice! And honestly, as odd as it sounds, getting rid of all the stuff I don’t need and then reorganizing everything has actually been so therapeutic and cleansing for my mind too!

I hope you try some of these activities to help keep you from slumping during this time!

My name is Anoushka. I am a Senior at Boston University, studying Journalism and Advertising. I am from Mumbai, India, the land of spices, culture, and colour. I love singing and basically anything that screams music. When I'm not writing or belting the notes to my favourite Adele song, I enjoy trying new foods (cooking and eating, of course), travelling around the globe, and looking for new ingredients to add to my superfood stash.
