It’s been a hectic few weeks for everyone. From the drama and unease surrounding the election to the new restrictions being set to hopefully slow the spread of coronavirus, it’s a good time to take a moment to step back from the world and focus on our mental health. Here are 5 easy things you can do right now to take care of yourself during these crazy times.

Unplug, but remember to stay informed

Although the media is important to stay on top of what is going on in the world, it can quickly become overwhelming. Limit the amount of media you consume a day. Make sure that after you get the information you need, you log off. Don’t spend hours scrolling, reading, and dwelling on eerie news articles.

Take a Bath

An easy — and effective — way to get away from reality is to take a bath. Gather your favorite music, a face mask, and lots of bubbles and bath salts to really soak any stressors away. For extra points, you may consider bringing snacks, lighting candles, or bringing a device to watch a movie or show!

Read a Book That You Enjoy

Step away from your phone and computer for a few hours and pick up a good book. Not only is it good for your brain, it’ll also take you away from all of the stressors of the day for a while. Currently, I am reading Steve Madden’s autobiography, “The Cobbler,” and I would recommend it to anyone interested in hearing about his perspective jumping into the fashion industry!

Watch Your Favorite Show

There’s nothing quite like winding down with your favorite show or movie. I find re-watching old gems to be especially soothing, so when I need a moment to get away from the real world, I will throw on Gossip Girl or The Carrie Diaries to relive all of the amazing feelings I had when I first discovered these shows.

Start Thinking About The Holidays

Retail therapy can be therapeutic (trust me, I know!), but can also be painful to your bank account. Instead of jumping on Amazon or Zara to shop your worries away, simply start window shopping to think about what you want to give your loved ones (or what you want to ask them for) for the holiday season. This is the perfect time to get organized with your gift-giving, so by the time December rolls around, you’ll have a strong list of ideas. Besides, I don’t know about you, but I thrive off making mood boards on Pinterest, so this is your opportunity to go crazy with your inspiration.

Try not to stress too much — We’ll get through this together!
