I Tried Drinking The Recommended Amount Of Water For A Full Week And It Changed My Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Alberta chapter.

I had grown up always hearing that you’re supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day to ensure proper hydration. To me that sounded like an impossible feat and quite honestly a total myth, as I personally didn’t know a single person who actually tried to drink that much water a day. However, about three weeks ago I decided to try it out and see if I could drink the proper amount of water each day for an entire week and I can wholeheartedly tell you that it is a lifestyle change I am glad I made. Now don’t get me wrong, I always have tried to drink at least a glass or two a day. I’m not one of those people who actively hates the taste of water and avoids it at all costs. But once I started to introduce proper hydration to my body I realized how much my body was craving it. For one I just felt so much healthier and not as bloated as I had when I only drank one or two glasses. I was less sluggish and I noticed that if a couple of hours had gone by and I didn’t have anything to drink my body would be craving a glass of water.

As I continued throughout the week drinking eight glasses of water a day I started to notice some more changes that were caused by proper hydration. One of the biggest ones was that I no longer had constant hunger cravings, as drinking water often satiated those feelings. This was incredibly useful for me as I no longer spent my day mindlessly snacking on little treats, but instead, I supplied my body with the nourishment I knew would make me feel better in the long term. Another thing I noticed was the improvement in my skin. Mask acne has been a real struggle for me, but by drinking proper amounts of water I started to see those effects start to reverse.

I am so glad that I made the decision to do something healthy for my body and make this positive change. I highly recommended trying out introducing more water to your routine, (even if it’s just for a week) to see what sort of change it can make in your life!
