If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last three years, I’m sure you’ve encountered the Stanley Cup craze on the Internet. People go insane for these colorful stainless steel tumblers, collecting them and buying up limited-edition collaborations left and right. This cup solely demonstrates the Internet’s power in its ability to make a product famous virtually overnight. From videos showcasing Black Friday rampages inside Target’s and Starbucks all around the country to clips of the seemingly indestructible Stanley Cups surviving literal house and car fires, social media has contributed to the unfathomable customer demand for these tumblers. However, despite the viral popularity and “indestructible” reputation, this product still has its significant limitations.
For starters, Stanley Cups are loud and bulky. Just remember that one girl who dropped hers in your lecture last year. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. The metal hitting the floor echoing off the walls—it can be so embarrassing. Beyond the awkward design, almost every user I know has encountered the same frustrating problem—the terrible leaking. Just the slightest tilt at a non-upright angle causes your drink contents to spill out of the straw and lid and all over the floor. Or even worse, in your purse or backpack, ruining your belongings and your outfit. A good water bottle, especially one that can run you north of $50, shouldn’t have to be positioned so carefully. This design is so inconvenient for the modern-day student or young adult who is constantly on the go, like most of us college girls are.
Really, the only exciting thing about Stanleys are their fun colorways and patterns. However, we all deserve better in the big 2026.
We deserve a bottle/cup that doesn’t leak, can be thrown into a purse or bag without second thought, fits in a cupholder, and STILL comes in cute, funky patterns and colorways.
May I introduce you to … the Brumate Era Straw Tumbler! This is a sleek, modern cup that comes in nearly twenty colorways and limited-edition prints and gives you the option to customize as well. Brumate Era bottles also have a leakproof straw lid with a locking technology that prevents unwanted spills and drips. The Era also has a metal straw that sits inside the tumbler with a silicone external part. Metal straws are more durable than the plastic straws Stanley uses, and you also don’t have to worry about microplastics disrupting your endocrine system.
Brumate’s are slightly more expensive than Stanley’s, but in my opinion, they are definitely worth the investment. They keep drinks hot and cold, look super cool, and can even keep carbonated drinks bubbly while not foaming and exploding out of the straw (because of that nifty locking feature). If you’re lucky, you also might be able to find one for sale at any HomeGoods, Marshalls, or T. J. Maxx. If you’re anything like me, the tumbler and water bottle aisle acts as a second home, which I instantly sprint to when I walk into the store.
For all of your beverage desires, from a dirty Dr. Pepper to ice water, I truly believe the Brumate Era Tumbler is superior to the Stanley Cup and is made for you. It comes in 30 oz and 40 oz and retails for $39.99 and $44.99, respectively.
So, here’s the rundown: Stanley’s leak, majorly, is loud and inconvenient to hold. They also don’t fit in most cup holders because of how large they are, which is even more annoying when they don’t seal all the way, and the only other option is holding it upright while you drive, or else it will spill all over your car. Brumates have endless fun colorways, a metal straw, are leak and spill-proof, can hold carbonated beverages, and, in my opinion, look cuter!
Ultimately, your water bottle destiny is up to you, but make sure to stay hydrated, cool, and calm!
