It’s officially autumn, which means one thing: Halloween is upon us. Everyone’s pulling out the sweaters, eating pumpkin-flavored things, and trying to find the perfect costume. One of my favorite things to do to celebrate the season is watching a Halloween-themed show or movie!
Now, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is probably one of my favorite shows of all time. I love sitcoms, but this specific show holds a special place in my heart. It’s hilarious and witty, but it also has those moments that give me all the feels. This show has it all, including a festive Halloween episode in every season.
Halloween Heist
The Halloween Heist episodes are some of the most iconic episodes, if not the most iconic. I always love to go back and rewatch them during the Halloween season, and this time around, I decided to give my ranking of these legendary episodes.
- “HalloVeen” (Season 5, Episode 4)
-
This episode had to be put at number one, in my opinion. The whole precinct tries to win over a cummerbund, but in the end, when Amy Santiago believes she’s won the whole heist, she’s tricked and actually ends up being proposed to. This episode is just so sweet; the proposal is so intimate and clever, and even though no one actually wins, it kind of feels like everyone won anyway!
- “Halloween II” (Season 2, Episode 4)
-
Some of my favorite Halloween episodes are the ones where it was just between Captain Holt and Jake Peralta. Their beef is one of the best parts of this show, and this episode is no different. I think the thing that really makes this episode is the fact that Peralta fully thought he had won, just for him to realize that Holt had been planning his victory since the last Halloween Heist.
- “Halloween III” (Season 3, Episode 5)
-
Now Amy Santiago is my queen. I love her with my whole heart; she is so precious to me, and she is me. For that reason, I’m probably biased, which is why this is so high up, but I really do think this is one of the best heist episodes. For the first two seasons, the war was solely between Holt and Peralta, so for Santiago to come in and steal their thunder, I was, one: shocked, and two: so proud.
- “Halloween I” (Season 1, Episode 6)
-
This episode is such a classic. It’s the Halloween Heist that started all Halloween Heists, so I think it deserves to be higher up on the list. The whole episode is just so chaotic and fun, and the big reveal at the end that the whole precinct was teaming with Peralta to help him win is just the cherry on top.
- “Cinco de Mayo” (Season 6, Episode 16)
-
This Halloween Heist isn’t actually on Halloween, but it’s still such a funny episode to watch. Having Terrence “Terry” Jeffords trick the whole precinct into moving the Halloween Heist because he was so stressed out, only for him to be lying the whole time, was such a plot twist. Not only did he trick the entire Nine-Nine, but he tricked me, too!
- “Valloweaster” (Season 7, Episode 11)
-
Rosa Diaz is also one of my girls. The fact that it took her a whole seven seasons to finally win a heist is outrageous to me, but she pulled through and basically ended up winning three times. This episode is also just such a fun watch, and I’m so glad that Diaz finally had her moment!
- “Halloween IV” (Season 4, Episode 5)
-
I love this episode because it’s the first one where the whole precinct realizes that it really is all fair game. Absolutely anyone could win the heist, and yet it still ends up not being who you think it is. Gina Linetti not being allowed in the games because she’s not a detective and still winning will always be funny to me. The only reason this episode is not higher up is simply that the others are better.
- “The Last Day” (Season 8, Episode 9 & 10)
-
Now I know some people might disagree with me on this because it’s literally the series finale, and for that I dearly love this episode. As a Halloween Heist, though, it just wasn’t as good as the others. In my opinion, Michael Hitchcock winning felt like a loss. It also just makes me too emotional that it’s not one of those episodes I really like to go back and rewatch, but it still holds a special place in my heart.
I love these episodes so much, so it hurt in a way that I had to rank them like this, but they’re all incredible in their own unique ways. My one complaint is the fact that Charles Boyle never won, and that is something I would’ve liked to see. If you’re looking for something to watch this Halloween season, maybe watch the heist episodes and see which one is your favorite!
