First dates can seem intimidating — but they don’t have to be. So, if you are meeting someone for the first time, a low-pressure date is the perfect plan. And if you don’t know where to start, I have 10 low-pressure first date ideas that are chill, fun, and a great way to get to know each other.

Let’s be real, on a first date, expensive cocktails and upscale restaurants can be a lot — and your standard coffee date can get boring (and, admittedly, a little awkward). But on a first date, you don’t have to be doing the most! Low-pressure dates are also low-stress, and a great opportunity for you and your date to try out new hobbies without getting overstimulated. After all, first dates can make you nervous or anxious — so participating in a calm activity is a great way to overcome your nerves.

Oftentimes, there is pressure to go all out, but our most precious memories often occur in the simple moments. These ideas are intimate and low-stress, which is perfect for anyone who is looking for ways to slow things down. And the best part? They’re pretty inexpensive, too. (A win!)

So, here are 10 low-pressure first date ideas to plan.

Stargaze underneath the night sky.

Stargazing is a romantic activity that everyone should try, IMO. (It’s also the perfect excuse to snuggle: underneath the moon and the beautiful stars, you will feel closer than ever.) Find a cozy place to lay down a blanket, and simply stare at the sky above. Romantic, right?

Take a nature walk.

Who doesn’t love a good walk? Going for a walk in a beautiful setting, like a hiking trail, is an inexpensive way to get to know each other better — and remind yourselves of the beauty in the world.

Have a picnic in the park.

Picnics are a great way to spend time with your date — and it’s easy! Start by getting a blanket and a couple of your favorite foods. Afterwards, find a nice park or yard, and you can chill in the great outdoors and get to know your company a little bit better.

Volunteer for a good cause.

There is a lot of good that can be done in the world, and you can do some together. So, instead of your standard date, find a local food pantry or animal shelter to volunteer at. It’s a great way to give back to your community and spend time with someone new.

Draw each other’s portraits.

Time to test out your art skills: Gather paper and pencils — or if you want to make it even more challenging, you can add paint. Then, sit across from your date and draw a portrait of each other. (And be sure to share the results afterward!)

Write a poem.

Want to get deep? Reveal how you feel about your date by writing poems for each other! It’s OK if you have never done it before; just write out your feelings for each other through the form of written words. Then, exchange poems and read them out loud to each other.

Bake a cake.

The Great British Bake Off, who? This activity requires some level of collaboration— and, of course, simple cooking skills. Find a cake recipe and see what delicious creation you and your date are able to whip up.

Have a cozy movie night.

A movie night in is a classic for a reason. So, gather the popcorn, candy, and cookies and cozy up for a movie marathon! In the comfort of your home, there is nothing to worry about — except for running out of snacks.

Make playlists for each other.

Nowadays, it is easier than ever to make playlists. So, try making playlists for each other. Find songs that remind you of each other, and when you are finished, listen to your creations.

Try a yoga routine together.

Get out the yoga mats and stretch your bodies. Exercises like yoga are a great activity to do with your partner— they allow you both to let loose and get comfortable with each other. Try out some yoga together at your local gym or simply use your living room.

These dates are great if you are looking to try something new that is low-stress, low-key, and easy. Always remember, every date does not have to be complicated!
