Olivia Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, is almost here. And now, the OR3 tracklist has fans convinced that a major theory about her new era is coming true. The OR3 tracklist — which was announced on May 26 ahead of the album’s June 12 release — includes 13 songs split up into two sections: “Girl So In Love” followed by “You Seem Pretty Sad.”
Rodrigo announced the tracklist herself on Instagram, writing, “Only 3 weeks till the album is yours!!! i can’t wait for you guys to hear these songs🩷🩷🩷.” Fans immediately took to the comments to rightfully lose their minds over the album’s two sections, the order of those sections, and the song titles themselves. As one fan put it, “Screaming crying on the floor, omg.” Same.
The way the album is built out, it seems as though Rodrigo is trying to show both the romance and the agony that comes with falling in love. The first section, “Girl So In Love,” seems to tell the story of someone falling for another person. The songs in that section include “Drop Dead” (which was released as a single, and is indeed a love song), “Stupid Song,” “Honeybee,” “Maggots For Brains,” “U + Me = <3," "My Way," and "Purple." The second section of the album," You Seem Pretty Sad," is made up of songs that appear to be more bittersweet, focusing on the negative aspects of relationships, or even breakups. The song titles are "The Cure," "Begged," "What's Wrong With Me," "Less," "Expectations," and "Cigarette Smoke."
Over the past few months, fans have theorized the album is about Rodrigo’s (rumored) ex-boyfriend, Louis Partridge. The pair was first linked back in 2023, but rumors swirled that they had broken up at the end of 2025. (Neither Rodrigo nor Partridge have confirmed the breakup rumors.) Fans of Rodrigo’s think the album will be tied to Partridge in some way — and that theory was given more weight when Rodrigo mentioned a Gemini in her first single, “Drop Dead” — “Pisces and Gemini / But I think we might go really nice together.” (Partridge is indeed a Gemini.)
Some fans have even theorized that half of the OR3 album would be love songs for Partridge, and the other half would be breakup songs written after those breakup rumors started swirling. With the release of the tracklist for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, it’s possible this one could be true. “Begged” and “The Cure” have both been shared with fans (Rodrigo performed “Begged” during her double-duty as host and musical guest of SNL on May 2, and “The Cure” was released as a single on May 22), and the lyrics are heavy. In “Begged,” Rodrigo sings, “I’m patient, you’re learning, pretend it’s not hurting / ‘Cause they say it’s a virtue to not let good love slip away.” In “The Cure,” the lyrics go, “And all the nights I spent fighting bad thoughts in my room / Feeling so alone, might as well be on the moon / I thought I found the antidote with you.”
There are still plenty of songs to come off of OR3, so time will tell whether this fan theory about Rodrigo and Partridge’s potential breakup is true. In the meantime, I’ll be listening to the singles on repeat.
