I remember when I first came to Michigan State University as a wide-eyed freshman, I was absolutely terrified. I had never been so far away from home by myself. I never thought that a city in Michigan would leave such a lasting impact on my life in so many different ways. Now that I’m graduating in just two short weeks, it’s very bittersweet driving past places that hold so many good memories. Here are a few places that harbor some of my favorite memories at MSU.
McDonel Hall
East and West McDonel Hall hold a really special place in my heart because this is the dorm hall that I lived in during my freshman and sophomore years. This building is where I met my best friends, my current roommates, and learned how to be independent during the first half of my college experience. My favorite memory here was meeting my roommate for the first time on move-in day back in 2022, and us sitting on the floor of our bare dorm hall, trying to figure out how we’ll survive the semester.
Communication Arts and Sciences Building
This is the building that I spent almost every day in for the past four years. Earning two degrees in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences meant that I had almost all of my classes in this building, along with meeting a lot of my closest friends here. My favorite memory in this building was when I anchored my first newscast for Focal Point News (the capstone course for broadcast journalism students) along with one of my really good friends.
Beaumont Tower
The iconic Beaumont Tower — doesn’t every MSU student have some type of memory tied to this historic tower? I absolutely love walking past the tower when it’s warm outside, and especially because I have so many fun memories there with my friends throughout the years. I especially love the time when my friends and I, on a super warm day in April during my sophomore year, decided to sit down on a picnic blanket and paint wine glasses. It was just a perfect day spent with my friends, and such a fun memory to look back on.
Although MSU has provided me with plenty of fun memories, these are just a few that I look back on extra fondly. I definitely will miss campus, living with my best friends, and just the college experience in general after graduation.
