By the time January turns to February, New Year’s resolutions are already on life support, even though we are just officially getting into the new year. Taking the time to revisit them and reanalyze your goals is really beneficial and they will probably be so appreciative that they will revive themselves.
For example, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to take 10k or more steps everyday, and I am going to be honest… that failed on day one. She died before I could even say goodbye.Â
However, not all of my resolutions have died – some are even thriving! If that is enough to make you trust me for advice, then please take it. But if not, I wish you the best of luck in visiting your resolutions and I hope they revive themselves.
The best piece of advice about New Year’s resolutions that I have ever gotten is from none other than Tara Yummy: “I don’t have any New Year’s resolutions, I’m already perfect.”
And that, my friends, is the energy I am taking into 2026, so I guess my New Year’s resolution from here on out is to tell myself that I am already perfect so I don’t need to do anything major to change. Something else I heard from someone (whose name I cannot remember), said, “I don’t have any New Year’s resolutions because if I wanted to do it I already would have done it and been doing it,” which I love because it is so true. Why would I have to set a goal to do something everyday if I really wanted to do that thing? In a perfect world, I would already be doing it by default.Â
New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be extravagant or anything glamorous to make yourself seem super cool; they can be as simple as drinking a glass of water everyday. Don’t overcomplicate it.Â
Here are some New Year’s resolutions that are realistic, keep you “perfect” (in Tara Yummy’s words), and still make you seem super cool even though they are so simple:
- Finish a book from start to finish from a genre out of your comfort zone.
- Try out prebiotic or probiotic sodas instead of regular sodas for a whole month.
- Declutter your room.
- Soak up the sun everyday when it is shining.
- Spend more time with friends and family.
- Write a short, kind note to yourself everyday.
I know at least 4 of these are on my New Year’s resolution list, and they can very easily be on yours as well. All it takes is making a commitment to yourself to take an extra step in your daily routine (which can take as little as 30 seconds).Â
Just to top it all off, each month as 2026 progresses, take a minute to check in with yourself and see how well you are keeping up with the resolutions you have made!
