These two weeks have been insane for me! There have been depressed, celebratory and neutral days within these weeks. I have had exams, family loses and friends birthday parties so I emotionally have been all over the place. Everybody has strange weeks like these but not everyone knows how to cope. Here is how I have been coping with these situations.

The First Situation: There was a loss in my family and all of last week was really tough on me mentally; in addition to that, I had a statistics exam that I needed to take which prevented me from going home over the weekend. To keep myself from further straying into the dumps of bad mental health, here is how I coped…

I focused all of my negative energy into studying for my statistics exam. My thought process was that if I studied hard enough I would be able to finish my exam quicker and go home to be with my family that same night. I was able to accomplish just that and was able to spend my Thursday night, Friday and Saturday morning with my family. I was able to properly grieve while having my family support system around me in the end.

The Second Situation: After the loss of one of my family members and my statistics exam, I was able to go home but it was the week of Halloweekend. My girlfriend’s birthday was during Halloweekend and she had multiple birthday plans she wanted to celebrate. Previously mentioned, I came back to NC State Saturday morning and had to celebrate her birthday that night and attend a party with her. It was mentally draining but I had fun and do not regret it. Even though it was mentally draining, I found ways to help myself mentally regulate…

After going to my girlfriend’s birthday party and Halloween party, I dedicated the remainder of the night to self-care. I took a nice hot shower and put a face mask on. I relaxed with my girlfriend for the remainder of the night so I could be free from the overstimulation of the night.

The next morning, I dedicated the entire day to cleaning my dorm because I love to clean. I deep cleaned my dorm and was able to relax for the remainder of the day. The night I also dedicated it to more self-care because of how busy my two weeks have been.

These are my crazy situations that occurred these past two weeks and how I was able to cope with them in a healthy way.
