Fans Think Taylor Swift’s AMAs Outfit Was A *Major* Easter Egg

Taylor Swift remains in our minds and timelines after her iconic appearance at the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Sunday, Nov. 20. Swift has been slaying every outfit while promoting her latest album Midnights and her upcoming Eras Tour, but this ensemble hit differently, and Swifties are now theorizing that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is next. And honestly? I can barely keep up with all these theories and Easter eggs!

After winning six (yes, six!) AMAs in both the country and pop categories, Swift is now the most awarded AMA artist in history, with a total of 40 AMA awards while only 16 years into her career. Honestly, what can’t this woman do? But despite it being a big, record-breaking night for Swift, Swifties seemed to only be able to notice how Swift’s gold outfit was reminiscent of her Speak Now era. Hmm…

Although she didn’t attend the red carpet, Swift turned heads as she went to receive her award, rocking a gold-studded jumpsuit with her hair resembling the curls she had in her early career. But the most telling Easter egg for fans? Swift’s sword earrings. One Twitter user claimed it refers to the lyric from the song “Mean” on the Speak Now album, referencing the lyrics, “You, with your words like knives and swords.”

Another Swiftie on Twitter also linked all these clues together to the “Mean” music video, saying, “The sword earrings, the swoop in her hair tonight matching the swoop in the mean [music video]… the fishtail braid she wore today matching this clip from the mean mv … i fear speak now tv is coming.” Another Twitter user compared Swift’s gold jumpsuit to her gold dress she wore on her Speak Now Tour, both matching in red lipstick and curly hair. One Swiftie went in even more depth with Swift’s hair, noticing Swift styled her side hair swoop instead of her usual bangs, saying, “Her hair at the amas is defo giving speak now. especially the side swoop bangs.”

TikTok users didn’t hold back with their theories or deep dives, either. The account The Thrifty Swiftie went so far as to analyze Swift’s rings worn at the AMAs. Swift wore a unique ring with four chains and ironically called the “Unchain My Art” ring, possibly symbolizing Swift’s freedom of her rerecords. Fellow fans in the TikTok creator’s comments noted that the four chains could also symbolize the last four albums Swift can re-record.

Earlier this month, Swift also caused chaos with her appearance at the MTV European Music Awards in Germany where she left fans stunned and confused by her outfit choice, possibly hinting a different rerecording is next. Swift sported her signature bangs in a black, green jeweled dress. The green gems had fans convinced it was an Easter egg for Reputation (Taylor’s Version), since the green could signify a snake. Swift also wore a snake ring, so I beg the question: Could it be any more obvious what she’s hinting at?

Though Swifties are all excited for Swift’s next re-records, Swift is still early in her Midnights era, with her album only being a month old. So, as fun as it is to speculate, I’m calling on my fellow Swifties to enjoy our Midnights era Taylor before she jumps into another re-recording.
