Fans Think Taylor Swift’s EMAs Look Is An Easter Egg About Her Next Album

Taylor Swift hit it big at the 2022 MTV EMAs on Nov. 13, walking away with four wins. Being named “Best Artist” of the night had to have been an honor for the superstar, but what left fans really shocked was when Swift attended the show’s red carpet. Yes, we’ve all seen the images: Swift sported a black bodysuit accompanied by a sheer, bedazzled skirt hybrid that has left some Swifties with an interesting theory. We know “lately [she’s] been dressing for revenge,” and some think that that revenge might be in the form of recording Reputation (Taylor’s Version)

As the proclaimed queen of easter eggs, fans have numerous speculations regarding which album Swift is set to re-record next. After she released her “Bejeweled” music video, an elevator scene full of buttons that resembled that of Swift’s 13 albums left Swifties intent on the theory that she was re-recording Speak Now. However, after her appearance at the EMAs, some have shifted their focus from Speak Now to Reputation. Are you ready for it? I don’t know if I am.

Swift stunned fans by appearing at the EMAs red carpet after 10 years of not attending. She really threw everyone for a loop when sporting her all-black, shiny look. As we all know, Swift has publicly announced that she loves to throw in easter eggs in the form of her fashion. Her red carpet look sported a mesh overlay adorned with bedazzled green jewels, which many have linked to the scales of a snake, and we all know how linked snakes are with Swift’s Reputation era.

Some TikTok users have pushed this theory even further, highlighting that she may have even been wearing snake jewelry as part of her look. However, this is not confirmed, and has really been left up to fan speculation.

One of the main connecting factors that has fans thinking we’ll be seeing the debut of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) sooner than we thought comes from the fact that Swift is now legally allowed to re-record the album. On Nov. 10, Swift gained the right to re-record the album, just three days before she attended the EMAs on Nov. 13. Having paired that fact with her possible snake-inspired, all-black look that was giving Reputation vibes, Swifties are contemplating all the possibilities.

Whether Swift’s red carpet EMAs look was an intentional easter egg linked to Reputation or just a way to throw off fans who are expecting Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), one thing is for sure: I’ll be ready and waiting for whatever album she wants to release next!
