Thanksgiving Snacks That’ll Have You Gobbling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

One of my favorite parts about the fall is the festivities and comfort food. Thanksgiving is a day that is full of festivities, thankfulness, loved ones, and of course lots of food! Keeping guests fed leading up to the big feast is important. Here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving snacks that’ll be gobbled up in no time.

Bites

The perfect thing for parties are bite-sized snacks! They’re just as tasty as their bigger siblings, but much easier to share. Also, bites aren’t as filling which will help you save room for the big feast.

  • Bacon-Wrapped Water Chestnuts: At every holiday, I can always count on my grandma on making bacon-wrapped water chestnuts. The brown sugar glaze on the bacon makes a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Every bite has a mouth-watering crunch, all thanks to the chestnut.
  • Apple-Gouda Pigs-in-a-Blanket: A party hit with a little twist! The addition of apple and gouda to pigs-in-a-blanket will pair nicely with other thanksgiving classics.
  • Mini Quiches: Easily customizable and quick to make. While always better fresh, they can be frozen and reheated making Thanksgiving preparation a little bit easier.

Dips

The great thing about dips is that they’re generally easy to make and can serve a lot of people. Any combination of foods can go along with dips, from veggies or fruits, to crackers and chips. Dips can also be catered easily to the dietary needs of all the guests.

  • Pumpkin Cheese Ball: An adorable appetizer that is perfect when served with crackers. Use thick rubber bands to get the pumpkin shape when making the cheese ball. To make it look even more realistic, a bell pepper stem can be used as the stem.
  • Spinach and Artichoke Dip: Nothing is more comforting than hot spinach and artichoke dip. This creamy and cheesy dip will melt in your mouth.
  • Cream Cheese Fruit Dip: Very easy to make, using only 3-ingredients: whipped topping, cream cheese, and powdered sugar. Fruit flavored cream cheese, like strawberry, can be used to add a little more flavor.

Crockpot

A crockpot is easy to use and allows you to prepare a dish while you’re busy. Making a Thanksgiving meal can be a lot of work, so low-maintenance appetizers will help with reducing stress.

  • Little Smokies: There are multiple sauces that make little smokies a fan favorite, with a sweet tangy BBQ sauce being my favorite.
  • Cranberry Sauce Meatballs: Instead of the typical BBQ meatballs, adding cranberry to the mix is a delicious and festive twist.

Sweet Treats

Is it really a true holiday if there aren’t sweets? There are plenty of ways to dress up treats to match the season. Some of these being chocolate-covered strawberry turkeys or pumpkin cake pops. While there are lots of cute treats, I like to stick to the classics.

  • Fudge: Fairly easy to make and endless possibilities. However, it is important to follow the directions and watch the heat. As an added bonus, an extra batch can be given away as a gift!
  • Pumpkin Rolls: Some of my best Thanksgiving memories are of my dad and I making pumpkin rolls together. While making them can get a little messy, the delicious result makes the clean-up worth it.

These snacks are some of my go-to’s during the fall season. They’re perfect for sharing (or eating by yourself). The snacks will keep you and your guests tied over before your Thanksgiving feast!
