ClassPass : Your New Best Fitness Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

One of the hottest trends in the fitness industry is workout classes. Group fitness classes exist for basically any kind of workout available. The benefits of these classes and programs are that it provides a motivational environment that is arguably more fun and more effective than going to the gym by yourself. It provides people with accountability and the expertise of an instructor to help them reach their fitness goals.

A popular new company has capitalized on the growing demand for niche and high end fitness classes. ClassPass is a unique experience that allows for members to take a variety of group classes in their geographical area while only paying 1 monthly fee. Some people may not want to pay an unlimited amount to go to exclusively one studio. Some cycling classes or barre studios allow you to pay a fixed rate for a monthly all-access pass to that venue. ClassPass does this for a range of studios for those fitness-addicts who just don’t want to commit to one thing only.

How does it work? Well, ClassPass members can book unlimited classes at as many studios as they want, for one rate per month. The one drawback is that you can only visit a studio 3 times per month. This may deter habitual people (like myself) who only want to do one type of exercise every single day. However, for the spontaneous health junkies, ClassPass gives you it all. Depending on the participating studios in the area, options may include: yoga, power yoga, hot yoga, spinning, pilates, barre, strength and conditioning classes, martial arts, boxing, the options are endless!

Class pass is a great idea for students at Penn or in the Philadelphia area to explore other fitness options other than Pottruck. Most of the participating studios are in center city in the Rittenhouse area. The distance is definitely walk-able (about 20 -30 mins) weather permitting- and walking to and from is actually a great workout in and of itself! Fitness classes are a great way to break up the monotony and stress of classes. They are also motivational and help keep you accountable for your fitness goals. Plus, it’s a great thing to do for yourself and invest in your health and well-being!

Participating studios near us include: Flywheel, Core Power Yoga, Philly Power Yoga, several barre and pilates studios, Lithe Method, rowing classes, and much more! With the spring and warmer weather (read: tank top weather) coming just around the corner, ClassPass is a great investment that many Penn students should look into!
