22 Thoughts I Had During My First Week of Half Marathon Training

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

On May 17, 2015, I’ll be running my first half marathon in Cleveland. The farthest distance I’ve conquered is a 10K, or 6.2 miles. I’m ready to push myself and prove to myself that I can achieve this goal. Running 13.1 miles has been on my bucket list ever since I was a junior in high school. I’m ready to cross out that obstacle. I’m ready for the sweat, blood and tears—I only say this because I know I will probably cry, I’ll definitely sweat like a man, and I’ll probably fall during one of my trail runs somewhere. So let the training begin.

1.     Why did I sign up for this?

2.     But really, why did I do this?

3.     Okay, I’m going to prove to everybody else that I can do this! And prove to myself that I can!

5.     Running three miles won’t be so bad for my first day of training.

6.     *Burps up the pizza I had in class while running*

7.     I feel great!

8.     I feel five pounds lighter after that run.

9.     Run four miles for day two.

10. I’ll run at 7:30 a.m. so I won’t have to worry about it later.

11. This absolutely sucks.

12. Why did I do this?

13. My ass, thighs, hamstrings and calves are all sore.

14.  Nope, not climbing any stairs today. Nope, nope, nope.

15. Day three includes cross training. That won’t be so bad.

16. Ugh! My arms, back and shoulders are sore because of that. Thanks, Nike Training Club app

17. REST DAY! REST DAY! REST DAY! ALL HAIL REST DAY!

18. I just want carbs. All of the time. (Nothing has changed.)

19. I can have some ice cream, because I’ll just run it off later.

20. Now I have to play in an all-day indoor soccer tournament…

21. So…sore…

22. Week one complete. Let’s see what the next couple of months have in store for me. *Insert flexing arm emoji*
