My Experience At SoulCycle DC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

With fall in full swing, I felt it was time for me to turn over a new leaf—time for me to get in shape before the holidays. If you’re like me then you love food and hate the gym so this task is easier said than done. If only there was a way to have fun while working out.

I’m ashamed to admit my avid obsession with celebrities but during my usual Instyle and People readings, I kept running into different celebrities that were trying SoulCycle and loving it. I did a little research and found there was a SoulCycle in Georgetown, just a quick 20 minute drive away. So last Saturday, I dragged my friend out to give this class a shot.

After signing in, we were assigned bikes. We walked into the room only to be blown away by the blaring music. The lights were turned off and were replaced by candle light. The candles created a peaceful and judgment free zone–however, the entire room was high-energy! With the music blasting, the instructor right away established her presence through her head-set microphone.

It’s basically a cardio party on a bike, with the entire room biking to the rhythm of the music. Our instructor was so energetic and encouraging. The music was blasting with the latest hit songs and everyone in unison following the instructor. She is shouting out commands: “turn up the resistance, stand up, sit back, lean forward, faster”! We had light weights on the bike, so during certain songs we were instructed to do different arm curl combinations. Trust me, the two pound weights can be pretty deceiving after 5 minutes of constant curls! Throughout the workout, our instructor was encouraging us through soulful mantras about being fit and being our best selves.

During this 60 minute class, I worked every part of my body and I had fun! Needless to say I can’t wait for my next outing to SoulCycle!

SoulCycle Sessions cost: $27.00, Shoe rental: $3.00, Having a great time exercising: priceless!

Soul Cycle location: 2301 M St NW, Washington, D.C. 20037(202) 659-7685
