Name: Dan Fravil
Hometown: Ithaca, NY
College Major: SUNY Herkimer Business Management Minor in Computer Science;?
Cornell University Hotel and Restraint Management
What do you do at Colgate: Resident Dinning Manager
What do you like best about working at Colgate: The student's involvement not only on campus but in the Hamilton community, especially Colgate’s Athletics Adopt a Classroom at Hamilton Central School.
Tell us your funniest memory from working here: I can't really get into too much detail, but it was at a BBQ next to Taylor Lake during SPW. There was a small inflatable raft, guys in speedos, snorkeling gear and Campus Safety was involved.
Talk to us about some of the changes in the food being served this semester (like the opening of the new Vegetarian Station at Frank and the re-opening of Donovan's Pub...): Dining Services is continuously working to improve the dining options on campus.  We go through comment cards and surveys and have student focus groups. This past fall semester, we kept hearing the same thing, which is that students wanted a healthier dining option at Frank with the main focus being on vegan/vegetarian cuisine. The new Wild Mushroom station at Frank is our answer to the request with daily chef stir-frys, organic rices, soups, chilis and vegan desserts.

Five Fun Weekend Activities

2/10/2012

We all know that Colgate kids love to party… we are ranked the #2 social drinking school after all. Colgate doesn’t have the “work hard, play hard” motto for no reason. We have fun going out to parties and then hitting up the Jug. But what happens when you’re too tired to go out or you have too much work? Here are some fun, not party oriented activities for the weekend!

1). Go to a concert at the Barge Canal: The Barge hosts concerts almost every weekend, with a wide variety of music. Performances range from Colgate University students to national performers! The concerts are low-key and you can sit front row while enjoying a hot chocolate. Could there be anything better? For a complete listing of all performances, visit the Barge Canal website http://www.bargecanal.com/Calendar.html
All performances are free and open to all! For more information and updates on performances, ‘like’ the Barge on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1144402442

2). Be a Rowdy Raider and cheer on the Colgate University sports teams! Every weekend there are many athletic events to choose from. This Saturday, for instance, there is a men’s lacrosse game, a women’s basketball game, and a men’s ice hockey game! Attending a sporting event is a fun way to show school spirit while hanging out with friends. For a full calendar of events, check out the Colgate Athletics website http://gocolgateraiders.com/index.aspx

Kimmie Garner

2/4/2012

Hometown: This is always a tough question because I consider a lot of places home! Mostly Norcross, GA and Greensboro, NC

College and Major: University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Global Studies and Women's Studies; minor in Social and Economic Justice

What do you do at Colgate?: I am the Women's Studies Program Assistant in the Center for Women's Studies. I organize and coordinate the Brown Bag series and off-campus speakers, supervise and build community amongst our six interns, help facilitate the Yes Means Yes seminar, support students academically and emotionally, and foster inclusive space for discussions about various facets of identity, such as gender, race, class, sexual orientation, nationality, and ability. My position is also flexible enough that I was able to co-lead the COVE's recent North Carolina Habitat for Humanity alternative winter break trip.

What do you like best about working at Colgate?: The amazing people I work with everyday! I love and respect the level of passion, dedication, commitment, and energy students, staff, and faculty bring to their work here on a daily basis. There are so many opportunities at Colgate, whether they be guest speakers or exercise classes, and I feel constantly stimulated and invigorated continuing to be on a college campus.

Tell us your funniest memory from working at Colgate: This was definitely at the Women's Studies "Come As You Are" Party in December 2011 when I got up in front of everyone and showed them dance moves we learned at a brown bag! I was up on the stage saying, "I never thought I would do this in my job!"

Brandon Plass '14

Name: Brandon Plass
Hometown: Queens, New York Major: Economics & Spanish What do you do on campus?  "I run it" What's your favorite thing at Colgate?  "The huge studio in the first floor of the library.  Nobody knows about it, and it's a great place to just be creative."   Tell us about your music: "The EPidemic is my first mixtape.  Me and Dave Lee, AKA Swipe Younghans, put the music together in a month.  We wanted to bring a new style of rap to the Colgate scene.  The kind of music we do screams New York and you can see the jazz influence in it.  It's just different from the, for lack of a better adjective, Southern rap that has become so big here." Tell us about your music influences: "I listen to all kinds of music.  But the rapper who influences me most to make marketable but still is-true-to-myself-rap is Tyler the Creator.   And Matisyahu, and Lindsey Skerker." What are your other hobbies?  "Playing basketball and studying econ." Three fun facts about yourself: 1.) I don't use deodorant, I just naturally smell good 2.) Cinnamon Toast Crunch is my favorite cereal 3.) NY Knicks all day

BaRack Little '12

Full Name: BaRack Little

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Class Year: 2012

Major: Psychology

What he does on campus: My main activities on campus (outside of schoolwork, of course!) are playing football, writing/making music, and just hanging out with my housemates, usually playing some type of videogame. Also, I am apart of a Bible study group on campus that meets at the Creative Arts house. I also work for ITS, when time permits.

Tell us about your music career: Well, S.U.S. came together in the spring of my freshman year in 2009. Jordan McCord, Johnathan Muhammad, and I all play football, and not long after becoming friends we all realized that we loved to write rap music. We first started recording songs with garage band on a little Mac computer, and then learned from Garrington Spence, a 2010 alum, that Colgate had an official recording studio. We then applied to get access to the studio and the rest is history. We've recorded over 100 songs in the past 3 years and have released 5 total mixtapes.
