Conan2Bentley Flash Mob (In Cooperation with REAL, CRAZE, & Her Campus Bentley)4/25/2012 |
April 25, 2012. The day that the first ever Bentley flash mob took place! Some of you may have seen it on YouTube, some of you may have seen it live, but most of you are probably wondering..."hey, what does this flash mob have to do with Conan O'Brien?" Well, Bentley collegiettes, we got the inside scoop on today's flash mob and it's relation to the new social media plea to bring #Conan2Bentley. Conan2Bentley is a class project that is being done for the IDCC 390 Social Media course. According to the Conan2Bentley Facebook page, the goal of this class project is to bring Conan O'Brien to Bentley via the use of social media. The class is encouraging students to tweet @conanobrien with pictures of Conan's face around campus or with witty phrases (many of which have to do with Jay Leno dropping out of Bentley). Cool. So what does this have to do with a flash mob on the Libary quad? The flash mob was created and produced as a cooperative effort between CRAZE, REAL, and Her Campus Bentley. They joined efforts with the Conan2Bentley project to help the class gain more attention to the project and have an even greater chance of bringing Conan 2 Bentley. If you haven't already, you should check out the flash mob video above and then join the tweeting project to bring Conan 2 Bentley by tweeting at him and using the hashtag #Conan2Bentley! Also, there are some awesome HC Bentley staffers in the video - can you spot them?! |
The Bentley Spring Comedy Show: Was it too much?4/13/2012 |
Alright Bentley students, most of you probably either went to the CAB comedy show this past month or have heard about the jokes mentioned by professional comedians, Jeff Ross and Anthony Jeselnik, and student openers, Josh Seiden and Ian Rich. As a recent Vanguard article explained, many of the jokes were centered around controversial topics, including sexual assault, rape, sexual harassment, gender stereotypes, racism, and disability. While many in the audience thought these jokes were hilarious and fitting to Bentley with its 60% male student body, many other members of our community could not see the humor or appropriateness of these jokes. Why is it that the audience found jokes about sexual assault to be funny? Why is it that Bentley students were able to laugh about a female volunteer being sexually harassed or at a joke about slipping date rape drugs to girls? Is it that we believe these things are acceptable at Bentley? Hopefully not. Rather than blame and point fingers, it’s important to look behind the humor of these jokes and look into our own community at Bentley to see why students are laughing at topics that are offensive and hurtful to other Bentley community members. Sexual assault, gender stereotypes, and mental disability are issues not to be taken lightly, whether on or off the Bentley campus. |

We are HerCampus Bentley10/31/2011 |
In light of the approaching holiday season, we at HerCampus Bentley took a moment to reflect on why we do what we do- whether we write, edit, publicize, or support, here is why we are HC Bentley girls: "I joined HerCampus Bentley because I love to write, edit, and work with the staff to create new and exciting material. I knew that HC Bentley would take the campus by storm, with its upbeat articles and real, relevant topics. I’ve met so many wonderful people in only the past few months, and I’m excited to watch the site continue to grow. It’s hard work, but seeing positive comments and making a difference makes it all worth it!"
- Olivia LeClair, Executive Vice President of Editorial, Featured Writer "Although I was initially excited to join the HerCampus Bentley staff, I had no idea how many great opportunities I had stumbled across by writing my name down at the activity fair table this fall. I was drawn to join the staff because I’ve always loved a good story, and I realized that HerCampus would give me the chance to share many stories, whether from my own life or exposing the Bentley community. I also joined the publicity team because I wanted real experience to help me commit to a major—I’m thinking IDCC with a public relations focus. Now, as the Publicity Vice President I am so thrilled to spread the word about HerCampus Bentley and promote information that is relevant and useful to all collegiettes™." - Lauren Murphy, Executive Vice President of Publicity, Featured Writer |
