What do you do on campus? Panhellenic Association Vice President of Recruitment, Admissions Office Tour Guide, Student Government Association Senator and Executive Board, Philanthropists at Colgate Vice President, Link Staff, Gamma Phi Beta
What is your favorite thing about Colgate? The faculty. I came to Colgate because I wanted to actually enjoy going to class and to have personal relationships with my professors, and I have definitely found that here.
Tell us more about one of the activities you’re involved in: Tour guiding is one of my favorite things that I do on campus. I view it as advertising Colgate to high schoolers and their parents and trying to "sell" the Colgate experience to them; it is my job to convince them that Colgate is the place where they belong. It is so rewarding to get emails from prospective students who tell me that after my tour, they are now even more strongly considering coming to Coglate; I feel like I am actually having an impact on their lives, which is really cool. Every time I give a tour, I basically spend an hour talking about all of the great aspects of Colgate, so tour guiding reaffirms (for me) all of the reasons that I love Colgate.

5 Super Refreshing Drinks!

5/5/2012

This past weekend has been incredibly warm and humid, and we all need some refreshment! Here are some tips for quick fixes when you’re in need of some refreshment!

1. Passion Iced Tea for the LibCafe. This colorful, fruity Starbucks beverage is absolutely delicious!
2. A Coop Smoothie. These smoothies are great all year round, but particularly in the warmer temperatures. Try different boosters for added nutritional benefits!
3. Dunkin Iced Coffee. This is a classic summer beverage as it hits the spot every time. Remember: everything runs on Dunkin, so drink up!
4. A Byrne Dairy Milk Shake. These are AWESOME and can be made with any flavor of ice cream. There are unlimited options so try them all!
5. A Hamilton Whole Foods Banana Soy. Basically all Colgate girls are obsessed with this smoothie, and for a good reason. So, if you haven’t tried it, go now. Remember, sometimes they have other ingredients so ask what can possibly be added to make your smoothie that much better!

We hope you’re able to enjoy the beautiful weather and you’re finals week isn’t too stressful!

Tips for Finals Week – Your Not-So-Smart-Girl’s-Guide

5/5/2012

With all the pressure that comes with finals week, we all have to find time to have fun with friends before summer break arrives and we go our separate ways and start boring (or if you’re lucky, exciting) summer jobs. While we think it is very important to get your work done and do your best studying for exams, it is also important to have fun. After all, you are at college for the “college experience”, no?
So live a little and stop worrying so much, exams aren’t the end of the world…

Procrastinate. Exam week is prime procrastination time. So, give in, let yourself procrastinate by Facebook-ing or watching a tv episode. While you should be really focused on studying, sometimes that is challenging to do when you’ve been posted in Club Case for hours and you just can’t take it anymore. What we recommend it setting time constraints for your procrastination. For example, if you begin to lose focus around say 9:15, let yourself have 45 minutes procrastinating and then get back to the grind. It actually helps to procrastinate as your brain gets to refresh itself so it can then continue to retain more information. So don’t worry if you take little study breaks to do random things, it can actually help your studying!

SPW Hangover Cures!

4/21/2012

Since we all know you were wasted all weekend, and the first time you actually got sleep was the few hours after Insomnia party (and that other party Saturday night/Sunday morning), you’re going to have one hell of a hangover on Sunday. Here are our recommendations for avoiding the hangover:

1.     Drink water! Set out a bottle of water the night before and actually drink it before falling asleep. After your full day of drinking, your body is sure to be dehydrated and dying for fluids. So give your body a break and drink some agua. The next morning drink water, too! The number one suggestion to avoiding a hangover is drinking water.
2.     Eat a hearty breakfast. Frank brunch is key. Eat a meal filled with carbs and proteins. We recommend an omelet and a bagel. While the other Frank foods probably look divine, stick to one item that isn’t too sugar-filled. The sugar won’t help anything, though you may think it’ll give you energy, it is a bad choice, so avoid it!
3.     Get some exercise. While you may be feeling extremely sluggish, go to the ym or for a walk to sweat out the alcohol. Even a little walk and fresh air can be extremely healthy!
4.     Replenish your vitamins and electrolytes! Have a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade to resupply your electrolytes. And, drink a glass of orange juice to get your essential vitamin C!

We hope you had a fun, safe SPW!
