Holiday Parties You Should Have This December

12/8/2013

The holidays are a time to get together with family and friends. What better way to spend time with them than with a party?

Now there is the typical family and friends get together, where there are holiday decorations everywhere. Everyone has a few snacks to eat, drinks to share, and stories to tell.

But why not have a different spin on the traditional holiday party? Here is a list of holiday parties that you should have this year. Or, maybe you're already going to one.

Ugly Sweater Party

As of late, Ugly sweater parties seem to be becoming a traditional party theme. But, that's not a bad thing. It is an excuse to pull out that embarrassing sweater one of your relatives bought you for Christmas a few years ago, or was it last year? Not only do you have a story to tell, but you actually get use out of the thing.

Fun things to do at an ugly sweater party are to have everyone tell a story about their sweater, have a contest for the ugliest sweater, and maybe have an ugly sweater exchange.

If you have a small group of friends, ask everyone to sit in a circle and tell the story about how they got their ugly sweaters. Tell them they can spice up the details, add a dinosaur in there or two, and see what crazy stories people can come up with. I'm sure there will be lots of laughs.

To make your friends feel even better about themselves, hold a contest for the ugliest sweater at the party. Get out some paper, have everyone write down who they think has the ugliest sweater, and tally up the scores. The winner can get a prize, trophy, or just the title of the ugliest sweater owner!

Finals Week

12/8/2013

It's what you've been waiting for and dreading all semester. Finals week!

Finals for the Fall 2013 semester are being held starting December 16 through December 23. Some of you may have your final earlier, but others will have them during the exam week. Your professors will inform you on how your finals schedule for that class will go if they have not all ready.

Be sure to get a good amount of sleep, drink plenty of water, and cover up so that you don't get sick during finals week. Also, be sure to study and get all of your work done so that you don't stress during the finals.

Good Luck! And when you are done have a good Winter Break!

Crimson and Cream Christmas: Co-Sponsored Her Campus Event

12/6/2013

Are you looking forward to the holidays? We know that we are! Especially now that we are co-hosting our first event as a club.

Her Campus Kean has been asked to work with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to host an event to help less fortunate children. The program is called Crimson and Cream Christmas.

Crimson and Cream Christmas is a program where we are reaching out to the community and inviting friends, family and others to host a wonderful  experience for children. We will have different activity stations such as Ginger Bread House making, painting picture frames, coloring activites and with a few others. Our hope is to have Santa Clause present, Christmas music and something small to eat to ultimately bring family and friends together while helping those in need.

As an admission ticket we are asking everyone to bring a gift to be dontated to less fortunate children. It does not have to be wrapped.

Everyone is invited, so please try to stop by and get in the holiday spirit! Tell your friends and family to come for a wonderful and fun experience.

If you have any questions write something in the comments and we will be sure to get back to you.

We hope to see you there!

What are you looking forward to this winter?

Her Campus Kean Creative Corner #1

11/16/2013

We here at Her Campus Kean love to write. I mean, we would have to love it to be contributers to Her Campus Kean.

However, as much as we love it, we don't always want to be writing journalistically. We are also creative writers, too!

With new members added to our team, we've discussed our love of writing creative pieces too. That got us thinking. Why don't we try to show our creative side as well as our professional side?

That is why we're going to try out this "Creative Corner" to Her Campus Kean. This is where our writers can show off some of their creative pieces.

As of now we only have a few contributions, but we hope to get more.

Enjoy!

THIS IS NOT BROKEN HEARTED

By: Xirena Wormley

I have to find some way to escape-

It has tangled its self around me & constricts around my neck,

Every time I try to leave him behind.

I’ve tried to be strong- the weight of the good times press against my chest.

Lungs heavy, vision blurry-

The bad times are too much, to handle.

The hardest thing to do is to convince myself that he is not love.

I write this because I don’t know what else to do-

When the person you run to is the person you must run away from,

Maybe it’s time to stop running.

This is not a broken heart.

I am not broken hearted.

I AM NOT BROKEN HEARTED.

Thanksgiving Break

11/16/2013

It's Thanksgiving Break here at Kean University! That means no school! A four day weekend just for you!

Whether you are eating with the family, shopping those great sales, or doing absolutely nothing, enjoy!

Thanksgiving!

11/16/2013

The fourth thursday of November can be different for everyone. It can mean family get togethers where you eat things like turkey, stuffing, or pumpkin pie until you are stuffed. It can mean helping out at your local food bank or soup kitchen to give food to the less fortunate. It can mean that thing that happens before all of those great Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales! But usually it means a time to reflect on all that you are greatful for that year or for your whole life.

Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, just take a second for that day to reflect on what you are thankful for. It could be for anything! Your family, your job, your home, your waking up that morning. Anything!

Well even if you don't do any of these things, Have a Happy Thanksgiving and weekend off from school!

Which Holiday are you celebrating this winter season?
