Becca DeMello
Hey everyone!
My name is Becca DeMello and I'm a Junior, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Marketing and Psychology at Suffolk University in the great city of Boston, MA.
Aside from Her Campus, I'm also involved in Theta Phi Alpha, one of the sororities here on campus!
I love books, dogs, running, dressing up, writing, the Red Sox, memorable quotes, peanut butter, and cheetah print!
I'll leave you with two of my favorite quotes that I think sum me up just right:
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Confucius
"She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." - Proverbs 31:25

Full name: Jason William Fasano Activities on campus: Treasurer of the Italian American Student Union (IASU) and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity Hobbies/Interests: I love to ski! Whenever I have money in the winter, I’ll go to a mountain. First thing you notice about a girl: Her hair. What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a girl? I set up a picnic under a meteor shower in New Hampshire. Biggest turn on(s): When they’re down to earth and when I kiss them and can’t stop thinking about them because of their personality. |
S.W.A.G. - She Wants A Gentleman3/26/2013 |
Chivalry might not be dead everywhere, but in college this appears to be the case. When was the last time you had a door held open for you? Or the last time a guy walked you home just to make sure you got there safely? Amidst all of the hook-ups, slutty ABC parties, and frat boy mentalities, once in awhile, it’s nice to be treated like a lady by a true gentleman. Instead of just “hanging out”, take a girl out to dinner. Guys don’t always have to pay, (we are all broke college students) but it’s nice to be treated every so often. It doesn’t always have to be somewhere fancy or expensive either. There are plenty of casual and relatively priced restaurants, bars, and pubs in the North End, South End, and Downtown Boston. Another gentlemanly gesture is walking a girl home or waiting outside with her until she gets a cab or catches the train, and then following up with a text to make sure she got home okay. When you are living in a city you can never be too careful. It helps to have everyone looking out for one another and she’ll really appreciate this gesture. In this frigid weather, if she is cold it would be nice to offer her your coat or sweatshirt to wear. Our stylish coats and sweaters are not always built to face the arctic Boston weather. Instead of a late night booty call, send her for a whirl and just call her to chat. Sometimes late night conversations are the best and just lead to some of the most deep and interesting topics. |
Meet the Newest Members of ΘΦΑ3/5/2013 |
Every choice that you make helps to define who you are and who you are to become. There’s a lot that goes into the decision of whether or not to join a sorority. You have to consider the time commitment, the active sisters, the financial aspect, the academic requirements, and the values of the sorority in relation to your own (just to name a few). The beautiful bonds and unforgettable learning experiences that accompany the journey during your collegiate years as a member of a sorority will leave a lasting impact. Suffolk University’s Theta Phi Alpha chapter is excited to welcome nine new members into their journey to becoming sisters of the sorority. Let’s meet the new ladies and see what they’re all about! Katie Briskie, Year: 2016, Major: Marketing, Hometown: Acton, MA Why did you join Theta Phi Alpha?: I joined Theta Phi Alpha to become more involved and meet even more people. What are you most excited for?: I’m most excited to someday become a Big! What does sisterhood mean to you?: Sisterhood means being there for one another through the good and bad, and it also means being friends for life. A fun fact about myself is: I have two tattoos. My favorite thing about Boston is: There is always something fun to do, especially walking around the Public Garden or Boston Common. |
The 10 Commandments of Being a Good Friend2/26/2013 |
1. Thou shalt not covet thy best friend’s boyfriend. Girls, I don’t care if he’s Channing Tatum or Prince Harry, if he’s dating your best friend, then he’s off limits. Trying to steal your girl’s man is the number one way to get you’re a$$ kicked to the curb. 2. Thou shalt not date thy best friend’s ex. Here is the Cardinal Rule: if she cried over him, you can’t date him. Even if she says that it’s okay, your friendship will never be the same. 3. Thou shalt not take thy best friend’s name in vain. Fights happen. You’re not always going to get along with your best friend all of the time. Even when that happens, don’t talk about her behind her back because I promise that anything you say will get back to her. If you have a problem, confront it with her directly. 4. Thou shalt not stab thy best friend in the back. When times are tough, sometimes it’s hard to remember where your loyalties lie, but remember all of what you two share and don’t betray her. 5. Thou shall honor thy friend. Everyone’s life can get hectic from time to time, but it’s important to always remember your best friend and who was there for you all along and stand up for her when it counts. [pagebreak] |
Boston to Close Gov’t Center T Station2/15/2013 |
Unless you’ve been hiding out under a rock the last few weeks, you’ve probably heard about the latest news that will affect nearly every member of the Suffolk community: the closing of Government Center station. Not only is this station central for Suffolk students, but for many others working and commuting in this area as well, as more than 11,000 commuters use this T station daily. Starting in late August to early September, Government Center subway station will be shut down for two years for an estimated $90 million project to renovate and rebuild part of this busy Scollay Square station. The renovation is Government Center’s first modernization in over 50 years, so you could say that it is overdue. The most dramatic change will be a tall, glass-lined station entrance, or “headhouse,” emerging from City Hall Plaza, as depicted below. |

Your Most Common Dreams Explained!11/13/2012 |
We have a number of dreams every single night. Research has actually found that we dream every 90 minutes throughout the night, with each cycle of dreaming being longer than the previous. Though we don’t always remember all of our dreams, the ones we do recall resonate with us for a reason. It may have scared us, made us laugh, been crazy, or fulfilled our wildest imaginations. Whatever it may be, experts say that dreams almost always mirror something in our realities and have logical ties back to our real worlds. So, let’s look at some of your most common dreams explained: Falling Dreams You jerk awake, dripping sweat, breathing heavily, shocked and scared because you have just experienced the “falling dream.” The common themes surrounding this dream are insecurities, instabilities, and anxieties. In some situation, in your waking life, whether it is work or a relationship, you’re feeling overwhelmed and/or a loss of control. When you fall, there’s nothing to hold on to, reflecting the downward motion of a situation that you may believe is out of your control. Falling dreams also reflect a sense of failure or inferiority in your waking life. These dreams typically occur in the first stage of sleep, which are accompanied with twitching arms, legs, or the whole body, which explains why you physically jump or jerk awake from this dream. But don’t worry, because contrary to popular myth, you will not die if you don’t wake up before you hit the ground in these dreams.
