Summer is here. In Signs Of The Times, Her Campus gets deep into all things astrology, zodiac, and the cosmos. This time, we are sharing what summer date you should go on, based on your zodiac sign.
“What’s your sign?” Whether it’s as an icebreaker at a bar, on Hinge, or over drinks on a first date, we’ve all heard this question before. If you believe in astrology, then you know that your zodiac sign can say a lot about you — like what your main personality traits are, your emotional tendencies, and even who you’re compatible (or not compatible) with. But hear me out: if our zodiac signs say so much about us, then why don’t we use them to figure out what dates to go on this summer?
While yes, you can always take that cutie you met on Hinge to your favorite coffee shop or go to you and your partner’s favorite date spot (again), it never hurts to spice things up and try something new. Let’s be honest, though — making plans can be hard. First dates can be hard to plan if you don’t know the other person that well, and figuring out what to do with your partner can be a challenge after settling into a routine together. However, you can always turn to your astrological chart for some inspiration and ideas.
So, if you’re interested in using the stars to plan your next first date, I got you! I spoke to Reiki Master Teacher and astrology expert Maggie Wilson about what summer date to go on based on each zodiac sign’s main characteristics and romantic styles. Here are 12 summer dates to go on, based on your zodiac sign.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): Overnight adventure
Be prepared to pack up your bags, fill your tank, and have a couple of days free if you’re an Aries this summer, because the perfect date for you is an overnight adventure. Think of something along the lines of a spontaneous road trip somewhere new or a camping trip. “Aries are a cardinal fire sign— they’re initiating, leading, and they need momentum,” Wilson says
Aries are adventurous and crave excitement, movement, and adrenaline. “Just going out for dinner is too inactive for them. It’s a challenge, but you must show them that you can keep up,” Wilson says.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Picnic
Taureans — grab a blanket and a picnic basket before you dash to your nearest Trader Joe’s for some artisan cheese and good wine. Afterwards, pick a pretty spot for you and your lover or date to eat and talk.
The best summer date for you is a picnic. “Taureans are sensual beings, and anything rushed, poor-quality, and chaotic is offensive to them. They are not materialistic; they only have high standards,” Wilson says. “Provide them with patience and quality, and you will win their devotion. Haste or shortcuts will leave an indelible impression on them.”
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Outdoor festival
Festivals are full of adventure, things to discover, and a great way to experience new things — which is why they’re the ideal summer date idea for a Gemini. So if this is your sign, put on your cutest festival fit and remember to put on sunscreen and stay hydrated before you leave the house.
Geminis are adaptable and always curious about new things, according to Wilson. “They have very active brains, and when Geminis are bored with one thing, they become agitated. That is why Geminis need a change of location and to meet new people.”
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Beach sunset
If you’re a sweet and sensitive Cancer, then having a deep conversation, watching the sunset, and walking along the coastline with your lover is the perfect date for you. “Cancer is a cardinal water sign; they connect on an emotional level, they create emotional security, they feel it all,” Wilson says. “They don’t care about impressive. Cancers care about being safe. They want to be somewhere that feels okay to be vulnerable.”
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Concert
There’s no better date for a loud and lively Leo than a concert. “Leo isn’t superficial. They are actually interested in creating a celebration. Leo wants to create happiness together,” Wilson says. “If your date feels special to them, they will understand. Leo is generous, but they need someone to appreciate that generosity.”
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22): Couple’s art class
A couple’s art class is a great date idea for a Virgo. Virgos tend to be clever and value skills and intellect. “Virgos are mutable earth, the organizing, problem-solving type, who pays attention to details,” Wilson says. “Planning and research will make them feel that you are paying attention. The lack thereof will stress them out. They are not boring; they are picky. They will appreciate your date if there is some skill involved.”
Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22): Botanical garden
Libras tend to be drawn to pretty things and appreciate aesthetics, so if you’re a Libra, try going to a botanical garden with your lover for your next date!
The best date for a Libra is somewhere that is visually beautiful and social. “Libra has real aesthetic appreciation and likes intellectually stimulating conversations. They also enjoy having other people around because they thrive on partnership energy.” Wilson says.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Late-night city exploring
If you’re a Scorpio, try exploring the city late at night with your lover — and make it an adventure while you’re at it. “Scorpions are fixed water signs, and they value loyalty, depth, and investigation. The best date for them is anywhere private where you can get to know each other.” Wilson says.
Scorpions are often drawn to mystery and depth. “For them, surface conversations don’t cut it. They want to learn about your shadows, your mysteries and motives,” Wilson says. “A night that stretches late into the night and involves intimacy and real conversation is perfect for them. It’s their magnetism.”
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Day trip
If you’re a Sagittarius, then try making a day trip somewhere new with your lover! “The best date for a Sagittarius is something unpredictable and exciting, where the date takes its natural course. Somewhere adventurous.” Wilson says.
While adventurous, the date doesn’t have to be anywhere super expensive: it could be as simple as a drive through a scenic area, or a day trip to a new city or town. “This sign absolutely hates feeling restricted or bored. They want to get out there, learn something, and be free. This is why dates that have exploration as a part of the plan and which are not very organized are appealing to them. Let them give their ideas.” Wilson says.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): Hiking
Capricorns — put on your hiking boots, pack a bag with lots of water and granola bars, and prepare to spend the whole day outdoors. The perfect date for you is a hike!
Capricorns are a sign that values effort and quality. They appreciate when others put thought into date planning and understand how important their standards are. “Capricorns want to see that you are ready to build something together with those standards; it makes an impression. They are not snobs; they just want to know that you value what they value.” Wilson says.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18: Planetarium Date
If you’re an Aquarius, then be ready to tap into your inner Mia and Sebastian — try having your next date night at a planetarium. “The best date for an Aquarius is anything that stimulates the brain and fits with their ideals,” Wilson says. “Aquarians need intellectual excitement and purposefulness. They can come off as distant because they have their head in the clouds. Your partner has to be able to connect with their headspace to win them over.”
Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): Art gallery
If you’re a Pisces, then your next summer date night should be spent strolling through an art gallery with your date. “The best date for a Pisces is a calm date where both parties can be fully present,” Wilson says. “Pisces is very emotional and imaginative. A Pisces wants to have a magical date without too much thought going into it or trying.”
Hopefully you’ve gained some inspiration for date night. If it’s your first date, then good luck — and if it’s not, be sure to enjoy time with your partner!
