Lose the Freshman 15: 10 Health Lessons My Mom Taught Me

Hello Collegiettes, Happy Mother’s Day! I hope all of you are able to spend time with your mom or at least a nice phone call.  I have been blessed with a wonderful mother, and one of her greatest gifts she has given me was of consciousness of health.   Despite my recent weight gain (now losing) she has always been a huge health advocate.  Minus the sweet tooth she definitely passed down to me!

When I was in about 8th grade, despite playing sports and everything I had a little baby fat left (ok, a lot).  My mom encouraged me to start eating healthier and going on walks with her.  After that, I developed my love for exercise and eating healthy.  If it weren’t for her encouragement, I would probably not be leading a healthier lifestyle.  I remember hating the whole wheat bread & hard boiled eggs or oatmeal with no sugar she would serve for breakfast, but now I am very thankful for that.  She has taught me so many great tips about health, and I want to share my favorite 10 with you!

1.    Exercise always makes you feel better and any physical activity counts

2.    Drink water with lemon, it is good for detoxing

3.    Drink a big glass of water before eating

4.    Wear sunscreen everyday

5.    Don’t eat when you’re bored (still working on that…)

6.    Healthy fat is good for you!

7.    Don’t think skipping meals will help lose weight, you have to eat to be healthy

8.    Take care of your body, mind, and soul

9.    Try natural alternatives first!

10. Take your vitamins, especially omega-3’s, Vitamin-D, and B-12

Thanks mom for all the great advice and being a positive role model!

Xo,

Hayley
