Lose the Freshman 15: Your Weight is Just a Number

It’s my last day of classes today AHHHH!!!  Like most of my classmates and friends, I cannot believe I am almost done with my freshman year of college.  Just three papers and two finals are between me and the end of school!  With summer and swimsuit season right around the corner, it’s important that I keep up with my healthy eating and exercise habits.

Unfortunately, my weight loss stagnated this week as I lost 0 lbs.  I am not discouraged by this number though!  I understand that weightloss is a process, and I see myself making better dietary choices and developing great exercise habits.  I can see these changes continuing for the rest of my life, which is more important than a quick fix to lose weight fast.  In the past when I would diet, I never felt like I wanted to eat healthy, I would always just force myself to eat healthy in order to shed the pounds ASAP.  Now, however, I actually want to eat healthy for a multitude of reasons– weight loss, long term health benefits, clearer skin, and all the mental benefits that come with being healthy.  So while this process may be taking a little longer, I know I will eventually get to my goal weight and have a great mindset to continue making healthy choices throughout life.

In honor of our last class, my professor for my 8:30 am class invited us all to her house for breakfast.  Although I did consider indulging in the crepes, Panera bagels, and coffee cake, I stuck to something much more nutritious and delicious at the same time!  TONS OF FRESH FRUIT!  I literally have missed fruit so much since I’ve gotten to college.  The dining hall only has apples, bananas, oranges, and the occasional pear, so it was absolutely wonderful to have a plateful of berries.  I also had a scoop of Cabot Vanilla Bean Yogurt- so yummy as well.  I’d never had Cabot brand yogurt before, I definitely recommend trying it!  Only 120 calories for half a cup!

I am so happy with the choices I made, and I wasn’t even thinking about the other food options because mine were just as tasty!  I think this morning is just a testament to how far I’ve come because in the past, I would constantly be thinking about that Panera Asiago Cheese bagel or bite of coffee cake.  Now, I am excited to make the healthy choice instead!  Plus, nothing is better than that feeling of satisfaction when you make the right choice (and not many things are worse than those feelings of guilt and regret after making a wrong choice).

If you are in the same boat as me and lost zero pounds, don’t fret!  Focus on the awesome changes that are going on mentally too!  Those ones are in fact the most important because you know they’ll help you stay healthy for life :)

Until Friday,

xoxo
