Lose the Freshman 15: Top 10 Workout Tunes

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Good afternoon collegiettes™!

Although I’m new to visiting my campus’s gym every day, there’s one thing that I’ve noticed: there’s always an obnoxiously loud girl who thinks she’s humming whatever song is playing in her iPod’s earbuds, when it reality she’s basically just weirdly/creepily singing to herself. That girl must have some really good music.  giftguide09 11

Oh, by the way, that girl is me (sorry UMD students!).

During my senior year of high school, I took a step aerobics class. I was totally hesitant about it at first, constantly thinking “these are the dorkiest moves and steps on Earth,” but what made it fun and doable was the music. My teacher always had the best and, to my surprise, the latest music playing–usually the techno-y version as well so that our step aerobics counts with go with the beat.

When I started my daily warm-up and cardio workout routines I thought this was a perfectly great excuse to update my iPod and create a special playlist for this special occasion. I honestly a bagillion songs but I thought sharing the best-of-the-best with you might come in handy and will inspire you to do the same, and maybe even join me in SELF‘s Jump Start Diet.

Here are a few of my favorite songs from my playlist…

10. DJ Earworm – “United State of Pop 2009
If you haven’t heard of his annual end of the mash-up of the Billboard’s Top 10 then you’re totally missing out.

9. Beyonce – “Single Ladies
My feel good song that inspires me to look and feel as great as Sasha Fierce does.

8. Black Eyed Peas – “Boom Boom Pow
Uhh, who doesn’t love the BEP? It’s got a fast beat that I can keep up with and takes my mind off that awful burn I feel from the elliptical.

7. Britney Spears – “3”
It’s Britney, b****… enough said.

6. Far East Movement Feat. Dev & The Cataracs – “Like a G6
I know, I know, it’s way overplayed but I loved this song before it became popular. You know you do too!

5. Enrique Inglesias -” I Like It”
This song always make me want to beat up the beat and keep me from looking like Snooki’s twin.

4. Katy Perry – “California Girls
Love, love, love Katy Perry! This song, though not super fast or anything, is perfect for my warm-up routine because it’s a little slower than the rest.

3. The Cataracs – “Club Love
Almost always stuck in my head, so it’s perfect for my weekend running so no one will hear me trying to sing along! running

2. Missy Elliott – “Shake Your Pom” Pom
Totally stole this song from the Step Up 2 soundtrack but whatever, it’s a perfect addition right?

1. Taio Cruz – “Dynamite”
I always consider hopping on that indoor bike and just start dancing… but I always chicken out.
