Lose the Freshman 15: How to Beat Summer Sickness

Hello collegiettes! It’s insane to think this is my second to last blog post for the program – writing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays has become so second nature to me now, it’s going to be weird to stop. However, what makes this post slightly depressing is not my nostalgia, but rather I’m writing this post from the comfort of my own bed…with a fever. Yup, summer has truly just begun and I’m already sick. According to the doctor, I should feel 100% fine by Wednesday – the day of my final weigh-in. I decided that even though I do not feel well, I’m not going to let that stop me from being healthy.

Here are some ways I’m choosing to be healthy despite being sick, and I thought I’d share them with all of you HC-ers. Let me know if any of you have some suggestions for me! (Because trust me, I feel sick as a dog)

Constantly drink fluids: Currently I have a bottle of Zico coconut water, a cup of green tea, and a regular water bottle by my side. They won’t be leaving me for days.

Get plenty of sleep: As in, more than the recommended 8 hours that we know we’re supposed to get but hardly ever do. Go to bed a few hours earlier than usual and your body will thank you for the extra recovery time.

Take medication: If you go to the doctor and he prescribes you something, don’t think you can get away by only taking it for a day or 2 and not finish. Take it for the full length of time the prescription is supposed to be for to ensure your system is cleared.

Don’t gorge yourself: As much canned soup my mom tries to stuff me with, I’m determined to stick to healthy unprocessed foods like small portions of fruits and veggies.

Attempt physical activity: I know it may be difficult, but even small things like taking your dog for a walk or stretching/doing planks during commercial breaks can help keep your blood circulation up and sweat out any toxins.

Eat carbohydrates: If you do choose to exercise, you’re probably going to feel pretty wiped out. Eat some healthy carbs, like whole wheat toast or spaghetti, beforehand to give you a much needed energy boost.

That’s all I can think of for now. I’m hoping I’m not bloated for my weigh in or anything, but you never know when you’re sick. I also took off from work, because you never want to risk infecting others when you’re sick. Don’t forget to keep following the Drop10 Diet and Dietbet Round 2, and follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. Until next time, bye guys!

With love,
