Lose the Freshman 15: Creating a Variety for My Cardio

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Hey hey collegiettes™!

So, if you’ve been following the “Lose the Freshman 15” bloggers and our journey on SELF magazine’s Jump Start Diet, you’ll know that cardio, in addition to healthy food choices and meals, is vital to our ultimate “freshman 15” weight loss.

Don’t let that scare you off from joining us though! I promise, it’s not as bad as it even sounds. I won’t even lie, I read “cardio” workout routines and freaked out.  But with only five cardio sessions per week (hello workout-free weekends), you will be well on your way toward healthy, happy weight loss. 901909 65093517

In a previous blog, I discussed what the various workout routine options included: the elliptical and stair stepper, the treadmill, the indoor bike and jump rope, or the 30-minute cardio-sizzler. The Jump Start Diet recommends choosing three (or four) of the previously mentioned workout routines, repeating your favorite(s) for the remaining days, and hitting up the gym or your student recreational center for just 45 minutes a day. Awesome, right?

Well, being a busy collegiette™ doesn’t exactly allot the time to go to a gym during the weekdays with club meetings, classes, social activities, or worse… midterms.

Being a procrastinator in the middle of midterms and trying my best to meet every deadline for each of my responsibilities hasn’t been helping in my quest for dropping weight and balancing my schedule with my workout schedule.

Taking a cue from fellow blogger Nikki, I decided to pick up a few workout DVD from Jillian Michaels, the creator of the Jump Start Diet (hello sale at Target!). 01

With Yoga Meltdown and 30 Day Shred in hand, for the next week or so, I will be replacing my usual routines with 45 minutes of warm-up followed by a butt-kicking workout from Ms. Michaels, and maybe even throw in an extra workout or two over the weekend.

If you’d like to join me in my healthy, happy weight loss (and please do), go register for the Jump Start Diet on SELF.com and be sure to use the SELF logs to keep track of your daily workout and meals, which is an awesome way to keep track of your calorie intake and how much you’re burning off!

Have you tried either of these DVDs? Share your thoughts! Leave me a comment, e-mail me at allylopez@hercampus.com or send me a Tweet (@allylopez).

Love,
