First official day with the “Lose the Freshman 15,” program from SELF Magazine and Her Campus and all I can hear is my Dad. “Anticipate”, he’d always lecture on the sidelines, during my youth soccer games.
Kara! You gotta anticipate! Thanks Dad.
Kara! Next time guard that girl, come on now anticipate! Okay Dad.
You can do it, anticipate! Fine. I’ll anticipate, just stop yelling anticipate!
[My soccer career didn’t make it beyond middle school].
And neither him nor I would have anticipated I’d return home freshman year, over 15 pounds heavier. But it happened – it happens! For me it was partly due to the late night runs to Cook Out and the lack of activity from a fractured foot. But mainly it was due to my change in attitude, after being sexually assaulted the third week of my first semester in college, I was quite the “Debbie downer” to say the least. After the assault I began to detach myself from my friends and family, allowing my only companion to be self-pity. My negative attitude took a toll on my mind, body, and spirit and left my self -esteem at an all time low.
But this past winter I felt ready and decided to commit myself to toning up. I’ve already lost 13 pounds, which on my 5’1 frame is quite a lot! But in order to lose those last 7 pounds and reach my goal weight of 125, I’m following SELF magazine’s Jumpstart Diet and workout plan. And good news, you get one too! Just register for the Jumpstart diet on SELF and be sure to use the SELF logs, so you can follow the diet along with me.
Feel free to check in on me by reading my blogs tagged under “Lose the Freshman 15”. And get motivated to put your best self forward this spring by creating healthier and happier lifestyle!

Spring Break is next week and I’ll be at the beach. Who thinks I’ll forget to pack my dedication to the Lose the Freshman 15 program? And who has faith that I won’t? Comment, I’m curious…
