4 Tips for Preventing Exercise Injuries & Achieving Your Most Powerful Body

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

As a lifelong athlete, I am no stranger to athletic injury. My first of 20-plus sprained ankles started at soccer camp in the seventh grade, the same year I pulled a muscle (my exterior quad) for the first time. Between playing soccer, kayaking, swimming, climbing, hiking, competing in triathlons, and running marathons, injury prevention is as high up on my list as your classic trifecta of fitness (strength, endurance, and flexibility). After all, what good is building up your strength, endurance, and flexibility if a tight ACL is going to prevent you from competing?

Here are a few tips you keep you injury free while you train:

1) Invest in the right gear. Let’s face it: not all gear is created equal. Although we shouldn’t look to blame all of our injuries on our equipment, it is important to invest in your gear so that you’re not starting off at a disadvantage. Common mistakes include using the wrong running or training shoes. I started developing runner’s knee after my first marathon this year, and it was only when I switched to running in the adidas Energy Boost shoes that my chronic post-run pain dissipated. New technologies like the Boost cushioning, which stores and releases energy more efficiently, may help absorb some of the impact that cause repetition injuries.
