Patrick Gallagher Landes was first spotted performing in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as “William Barfé”- a nasally nerd with a touchy personality and peanut allergy. Contrary to his role in the musical though, this week’s campus cutie is down to earth, musically-inclined and has a great sense of humour. Let’s see what this cute (and single!) freshman has to say…

Hometown: Harrisonburg, VA
Year: 2016
Dorm: Larrabee
Relationship Status: Single

What are you most Involved in at Conn?
For the past few months it’s been theater, but I hope to get more involved with activism (like 1 in 4), music, and Ultimate Frisbee.

People were really impressed with your performance in the spelling bee. How did you get into acting?
I don’t remember “getting into” acting, it’s just something that’s always been there for me. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. My parents tell me that they knew I was an actor when we would make funny faces at each other in the bathroom mirror when I was little.

Favorite movie, book, and musical artist?
SLC Punk, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, and this one changes a lot, but at the moment, it’s a band called Yes.

Describe yourself in three words: Musical, compassionate, relaxed.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
Oh geez… Well since you asked, here it is: It was probably at camp when we sitting around the fire and I was not really listening to the guest speaker. Instead, I was thinking about how badly I had to fart. So the speaker went on, and on, and on, and at just the right moment, when there was a short break in her speech, I ripped a loud and long one. The place erupted with laughter.

What is your favorite class so far?
Probably my Intro to Sociology class. The professor is charismatic and the work is interesting.

What is your dream job?
The elusive well paying part-time actor, part-time musician, part time counselor job.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I really want to go back to the area in Switzerland where I went to boarding school. Lugano is the perfect mix of mountainous and aquatic scenery and Mediterranean climate.

What qualities do you value most in a girl?
Kindness, compassion, a nice smile, and the willingness to give me random back massages (my favorite things ever!)

Turn off/deal breaker: Rudeness.

Pet Peeve: People standing in doorways.

Motto: “You can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind.”

How do you feel about being this week’s Campus Cutie?
I’m really flattered and surprised. I usually fly under the radar for these types of things.

Name: Kadeem McCarthy
Year: 2015
Hometown: Nantucket, MA

I can watch Chopped for hours and hours.

Favorite food:
I love breakfast food – I’ll take waffles, eggs, and/or cereal any time of day.

What do you look for in a girl?
She’s gotta be able to chill HARD and can’t require my attention all the time.

Describe your perfect first date:
It must involve dinner (I love a girl that loves to eat). And is a walk on the beach during
sunset too cliché? I’m an island boy those are my simple pleasures.

Dream job:
Ideally, I’d be a stay-at-home dad and do a little theater on the side. But I’ll have to keep
dreaming or marry rich…

Most embarrassing moment?
I went ‘sledding’ on my back down the entire set of bleachers at the Homecoming game
my junior year in high school. It hurt like hell and I was embarrassed as hell but all my
friends say that it looked f-ing sweet.

Denzel Washington of course. He’s a good looking guy and I’m campus cutie – it just
makes sense.

I think I’d have to be Thor because he’s not only a superhero but a god which just
makes it that much more awesome that he kicks ass!

If you don’t know Lloyd Ambrose, you should. He has worked his way to stardom at Vanderbilt University and is currently trying to attain stardom on a grander level. His YouTube partner, Steven Simpson, and he have gained thousands of YouTube subscribers in a very short span of time. For those of you who are wondering what makes this guy so special, read on.

Major: mechanical engineering

Claim to fame: YouTube videos… and general awesomeness

When did you become interested in making films/videos?
In the eighth grade, I would use Microsoft Paint to draw stick pictures and make slide shows with them. My teachers and classmates loved it, but it was nothing special. In tenth grade, my friend Steve and I started making test videos, where we tried to figure out how Hollywood put certain special effects in the films we watched in theaters- think people shooting fire or disappearing.

What motivates you to continue making videos?
Popularity (among peers and YouTube viewers) definitely motivates me. My friend Steve also motivates me because he is very dedicated to our channel.

Why did you and Steve decide to focus on comedic videos for your YouTube channel?
People relate to comedic videos more, so comedic videos get us more views. People would rather laugh at our funny videos than be amazed by the test videos. When we were making only test videos, we never got over 4,000 views within a week. Now, we sometimes get 30,000 views in a single day.

Which video did you have the most fun recording, and why?
I had the most fun recording “Ghetto Siri” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwedupPype0), because my friends and I didn’t know we were going to get Terrico White, a former NBA player, to participate in the project. He was very chill. It was a lot of fun.

Which video did you have the least fun recording, and why?
I had the least fun recording “Mortal Kombat”(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeByIsi8ShM) because it took us five months to edit it. Steve had a tight work schedule. I was in a lot of high school organizations and both of us had girlfriends to spend time with.

Do you and Steve have any current projects?
Our short film “4PLAY” will be released before February 15, 2012 because that’s the date of the Vanderbilt Student Film Festival deadline. We collaborated with YouTube comedian SpokenReasons (http://www.youtube.com/user/SpokenReasons) for that one. Also, we have a sex tape spoof coming out soon and twelve projects lined up that we’ve already filmed.

How do you balance your YouTube channel with school, especially as an engineering major?
I’m still working on it, honestly. It’s nice to have a creative partner for the YouTube channel though. If one of us is busy the other one works on our videos more.
What’s most important to you?
Probably peanut butter and jelly. It has to be apple jelly too. Well, if I run out of apple jelly, I use grape jelly. If I run out grape jelly, I go buy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My wife has to be able to make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. That’s 70% of what I look for in a woman.

What are your other talents?
I’m a black belt in kung fu. I play piano, I’m a pretty good basketball player, and I cook really good New Orleans food.

Do you know how to warm Pop Tarts?
Yes, I do.

Why Lloyd gets the Vandy Campus Celeb Stamp of Approval:
Yes, the above picture is the reason. Well, not really. However, it does depict many wonderful things about him. He is creative, dedicated, artistic, humorous, and humble. Also, there’s eight of him. All of the aforementioned qualities enable him to write scripts for, record, and edit videos while maintaining good relationships with those around him. On top of all of that, he is able to maintain a solid GPA. Is he Superman or is he Superman? If you’re ever in need of a video editor or just someone to talk to, he is definitely your go-to guy.

Name: Drew Klingner

Where are you from?
I am from the northwest side of Chicago and have lived there my whole life.

What are you majoring in at Duke?
I am double majoring in Theater Studies and Public Policy.

What year are you?
I’m a sophomore.

Tell me a bit about Me Too Monologues- how was it working with the cast? What did you learn about yourself/what did you learn?
Working with the cast was phenomenal, because each cast member felt such an urgency to do his or her monologue justice. The energy during rehearsals was great, and everyone was super excited to help out. If I learned one thing from the Me Too Monologues it was that you are not alone in your problems. There is inevitably someone on Duke’s campus that shares your emotions and experiences. I guess the thing I learned about myself is that I have a lot of fun putting myself out there and not holding back in performances.

What’s your favorite memory so far from your years at Duke?
My favorite Duke memory was performing with Rhythm and Blue at the Freshman Orientation A Cappella Concert this year. The crowd was enormous and extremely energetic! Singing in that concert was such a rush!

Are you studying abroad? If so, where and why?
Im doing the Duke in London Drama Program this summer, because we will see over 30 plays and musicals while we are there, and learn from some of the best actors in London. In the fall, I’ll be attending the Duke in New York: Arts and Media program in order to get a head start in NYC and experience all that the city has to offer. I’m looking into getting an internship on Broadway.

What’s your favorite dessert?
Anything with chocolate :)

Campus Activities: I played Seymour in Risley’s production of Little Shop of Horrors this last semester, and I hope to do even more performing next semester. I also work in a chemistry lab … and because my grad school apps have been making me think of nothing but chemistry, I’m going to try to keep the chemistry talk to a minimum from here on out.
Why he came to Cornell: I wanted a tough school that would make me work (too) hard, but that was also close to home and to my friends in Binghamton.

Relationship deal breakers: I recently realized that I could never date a girl who posts a Facebook status like “If you like me, you’ll text me first.” But in all honesty, I’m just not into drama, so I look for the kind of girl who’s too busy thinking about important stuff to get caught up in the trivial things.

So, do you have a favorite place to eat in this town? Coney Islander.

Do you have any tattoos?
