Biggest Turn on with a girl?: A girl with swag. SWAG = Stylish, Wild, Attractive, Gregarious
Biggest Turn off: A girl with no swag.
Celebrity Crush and why: Not even sure if she’s qualified as a celebrity anymore but I used to have the biggest crush on JoJo. Girl can sing, dance, and definitely has swag.
Who would you consider your “man crush”: Justin Bieber all day…Canada repping… Most people don’t know this but he plays almost every instrument…The kid made it from the bottom to the top on his own driven just by his passion for music. He kills it! Let the haters hate!
Future Career Goals/Ambitions?: The advancement of renewable energies. Maybe starting my own business in that field.
Hobbies/Interests: Basketball, making/listening to music, working out, raging, travelling, all water activities (pool, lake, beach, water park, boating, water skiing…), getting money, writing lyrics, all sports, going ham.
Favorite/Least favorite fashion trend for girls:
Favorites: 1. Sundresses (get me everytime)
2. When a girl can look good without even trying. Sweat pants, wearing my sweatshirt to the game with no make up and she STILL looks beautiful? That’s wifey.
Least favorite: Ripped jeans… Get your class up!
Campus Activities: SU Basketball team #RamUp, Ramifications a cappella group, SU SAE Fraternity, BLC Study Group Leader.
Three words you’d use to describe yourself: Outgoing, ambitious, caring.
First thing you notice about a girl?: Her body, but her smile is the make it or break it.
What advice would you give to a girl trying to impress you?:
1. Don’t be afraid to let go and get wild.
2. Make an effort to get to know me if I’m trying to get to know you.
3. Be easy-going/spontaneous/be able to go with the flow.
4. Take care of yourself before you try to take care of me.
5. Be confident but not full of yourself.
If you had to be stuck on a deserted island for an entire year with another student at Suffolk university who would it be?: My roommate Matthew Burke a.k.a. Matty Bizzle. The kid knows how to play hard, work hard, and take care of business.
If you had to pick a song to be the theme song to your life what would it be?: In My Mind-Axwell Mix. Gotta live in the moment, enjoy every minute, and this track definitely has that vibe.
Most embarrassing song on your iPod: Waka Waka-Shakira. Kinda makes me want to get up and booty bump…
Most embarrassing moment: Pausing for a solid 20 seconds during my valedictorian speech. I was reading it and I tried to take my eyes off the page and say it by heart while looking up at the crowd but I completely forgot the words and when I looked back at the page I lost my spot… Hard times. Haha But I ended it with a rap so the crowd still felt it despite the mishap.
Best part about your Suffolk experience so far? Being able to ball out on the court, in the classroom, on the stage, and in the club are all definitely up there. But this college experience wouldn’t be what it is without the people that I’ve met.
What is an interesting fact about you most people don’t know? I got a few: My first language is French, I’m Egyptian, I sing/write Rap and RnB music.
Most romantic thing you’ve ever done for someone? Going on vacation to Destin, Florida with my gf at the time. There’s nothing more romantic than being in a new, exciting, and beautiful place with your girl. Candle lit dinners, walks on the beach at night, fun in the sun during the day. Good times.
Idea of a perfect date? Sushi dinner then hitting up a club to dance the night away.
If people were to give you a superlative, what do you think it would be? Well-Rounded because I got a little bit of everything for a little bit of everyone.
I had never listened to the “Ramifications” (Suffolk’s A-Capella group) before so I decided to Youtube them. Even though Adam doesn’t have the solo in this he provides most of the sound effects! Enjoy!

Name: David Getz
Hometown: Sharon, MA
Year: 2015
Major: My major… that’s a fantastic question! I started off wanting to be a Chemical Engineering major, and I was interested in the dual program with Columbia. But since then, I’ve changed my mind a few times, alternating between Chemistry, Mathematics, premed, and Business. By the end of the year, one or all of these subjects will be my major/minor. But as for now, I wouldn’t say that I’m undecided- I think I’m just indecisive.
What on-campus clubs are you involved in?
On campus, I am involved in Crowd Control (Long Form Improv), Proscenium (A Capella), and IM Soccer (Men’s and co-ed). If I could squeeze anything else in, I would.
Tell us more about your experience being in Crowd Control:
In 8th grade, I tried out for Improv Soup, a local troupe in Foxboro, MA, consisting of high school students from all over eastern Massachusetts. Since my acceptance into the group, my passion for improv and comedy have grown. Last year, I tried out to be in Crowd Control, and I feel so fortunate to have been chosen- the kids in my group have become some of my best friends on campus, and the experience has helped me grow as an improvisor, performer, and comedian.
I heard recently you were accepted into Proscenium, how has that experience been so far? Have you always loved singing?
I am very excited to be a part of Proscenium. Based on my first impressions, everyone in the group is so nice, energetic, and musically talented. I’ve already learned nearly two of their big songs, and I look forward to a fantastic year in the group.
A few weeks ago you played the lead role in the 24 Hour Musical, how did you get interested in performing and musical theatre?
My very first performance was in first grade- I was an outgoing penguin named Tacky in a show called Tacky the Penguin. If I remember correctly, Tacky ultimately saves his fellow penguins from a band of poachers by being overly friendly and violently slapping them on the back with a friendly “WHAT”S HAPPENIN’!” The penguins then celebrate. Fade Out.
Since then, I’ve been in James and the Giant Peach, the Wizard of Oz, Roomers, Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed, The Crucible, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I guess you could say that I’ve been interested in theater for a good portion of my life.
What was the best and worst part of being involved in the 24 Hour Musical? Would you do it again?
Trying out for 24-hour musical was at the encouragement of my friends and family. I was interested in the experience, and I had heard such good things about it. Needless to say, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.To answer your question, I would say that the best about being involved WAS being involved. I had such a good time, and I will definitely try out next year. Most of the credit goes to the people behind the scenes- the directors, managers, techies, music directors, runners, wood-shoppers, costume designers, dance choreographers, and those so far behind the scenes that I neglected to mention them in this unintentionally long list of people who deserve so much thanks for all their work. As for the rest of my experience, as exhausting as it was, I would most definitely recommend it. The pressure and non-stop “theater-ness” of the 24-hour span made me feel a part of the cast, and the ultimate performance was even more rewarding.
Where is your favorite place to eat on campus? Off campus?
My favorite restaurant off campus is Baan Thai, but I am a little biased, due to the fact that I don’t order in or go out to eat very often. On campus, Upper Usdan is my most frequented dining area. I’m working up to having the ‘Griller Workers understand me when I ask for “the usual.”
What are some of your hidden talents?
My hidden talents- I do a mean impression of Elvis Costello doing a mean impression of Eric Clapton. I do an even better impression of Neil Young doing an impression of Gingy from Shrek.
What is the best concert you have ever been to?
The most memorable concert I’ve ever been was a Beatles Mania concert in my town. Do a google image search of Blues Traveler. If those guys and the Wiggles birthed 4 children, and those children started a band together, it could easily be the same Beatles Mania band.

Name: Zachary Marlin
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
Year: 2016
Her Campus: So, Zach, what have you gotten involved in since your start at Brandeis?
Zachary Marlin: I’ve been doing a lot since I got here, actually. I participated in the 24-hour musical that was so much fun, and I just joined the a cappella group Starving Artists. I am in a production of Into the Woods, and I am also a sports writer for the justice.
HC: Wow, that’s quite a bit! It’s great to see how much fun you’ve been having with music and theatre. Tell me about joining Starving Artists!
ZM: It’s so fun, everyone is so amazing and so talented and I’m honored to be part of such a great group of people. Also, we have our first concert coming up on October 7th at Faneuil Hall in Boston, which should be great!
HC: What’s your favorite song that you guys sing?
ZM: “Proud” I don’t remember who it’s by but it’s so good!
HC: What’s special about this production of Into the Woods?
ZM: It’s actually going to be IN the woods. It’s free, during Fall Fest and it’s going to be in the woods near IBS. I’ve had a blast rehearsing for the show and I’m definitely excited for the performances to start.
HC: What’s the best thing about being able to live on your own here at Brandeis?
ZM: First of all, everyone I’ve met is so amazing and I love hanging out, and also being able to set my own schedule and not having to rely on anyone else for scheduling purposes is definitely a plus.
HC: What’s one school essential you can’t live without?
ZM: I bought a lot of crystal lite peach iced tea packets, which I love.
HC: I know you’ve been here for only a month, but what’s one thing you hope to accomplish before you graduate Brandeis?
ZM: I really hope to direct my own show one day. I feel like that would be so rewarding because I’m really into all of the different aspects of theatre so I like to see it from all sides.

Name: Harry Guilfoyle
Harry Guilfoyle is the President of Speak of the Devil, Duke’s all male vocal ensemble. We caught up with him earlier this week to find out a little bit more about Speak and the President himself.
How did you get into singing?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I think it comes from my mom, every night as she cooked dinner when I was young she would be singing, I’m pretty sure I inherited it from her. I sang and acted in plays and musicals through middle school, but once I got to high school I focused solely on singing. I was the president of my high school all-male a cappella group and I was also a member of our schools chamber singers, which was an invitation-only group. We actually got to perform at the white house over christmas break my junior year which was an awesome experience. Singing has always been a passion of mine.
What is your favorite part about Speak of the Devil and what sets it apart from the rest of the acapella groups?
Without a doubt, my favorite part of the group is the camaraderie. Singing is what brings us all together, but group members regularly hang out outside of rehearsal, and it really is a sort of small brotherhood. Nobody in the group takes themselves too seriously and we always put emphasis on enjoying ourselves, and we think that mindset is reflected in the way we perform. All too often a cappella groups are described as “emotionless” in their performances. We never want our audiences to react that way, so we always put a huge amount of energy into the way we perform. Quite simply, we love to have a good time both on and off stage, though we never forget that the music is always what comes first.
How does someone get involved with Speak of the Devil?
Well, we actually just finished our fall auditions. Students are encouraged to sign up for an audition spot right after the orientation show, so unfortunately our formal audition process is now over. We do generally have auditions late in the spring for any guy who is interested in joining the group. Anyone with any specific questions about joining the group can also always email me at harry.guilfoyle@duke.edu.
Will you be pursuing singing after you graduate?
I’d really like to if I have the time. My stepbrother is a fellow Duke graduate and Speak alum, and he’s currently working in Denver and actively trying to find a singing group he can join. One thing that Speak alums always say is how much they miss singing on a regular basis, so I’d really like to see what sort of options there are out in the real world for someone like me. I don’t have my plans for next year nailed down yet, so right now I’m focusing most of my energy on finding a job, and hopefully when that is all figured out I can search around for another singing group to join.
What is your favorite song to sing?
This is a tough one. We recently debuted a lonely-island medley that the whole group absolutely loves to sing. Besides that, our Backstreet Boys medley has consistently been a hit, especially with our sizable female audience. We also sing a song called Faded that is sort of a Speak classic, I know for a fact that the group has been singing it for at least 10 years. It’s hard to chose one but those would be my top three.
What are your next events/what are you excited about for this semester?
Speak is looking to have a breakout year. We’re at the beginning stages of recording our first album since 2007, and we’ll be working with a recording company called Liquid 5th that specializes in a cappella groups and will be opening a brand new facility dedicated to a cappella recording and production in just a matter of weeks. That’s definitely going to take up a lot of our time but it’s something we’re incredibly excited about. Beyond that, we’re in the process of learning new material in preparation for our fall break tour that will take us up and down the east coast. We’ll also be doing a show in the Blackwell Arch on East Campus sometime in the next couple of weeks to show off our new freshmen members and give them a chance to perform in front of their friends. We’re always available for dorm shows, birthdays and pretty much anything else where an a cappella group might be desired. Again, anyone who wants to book Speak for a show can email me at harry.guilfoyle@duke.edu.

Name: Drew Klingner
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from the northwest side of Chicago and have lived there my whole life.
Q: What are you majoring in at Duke?
A: I am double majoring in Theater Studies and Public Policy.
Q: What year are you?
A: I’m a sophomore.
Q: Tell me a bit about Me Too Monologues- how was it working with the cast? What did you learn about yourself/what did you learn?
A: Working with the cast was phenomenal, because each cast member felt such an urgency to do his or her monologue justice. The energy during rehearsals was great, and everyone was super excited to help out. If I learned one thing from the Me Too Monologues it was that you are not alone in your problems. There is inevitably someone on Duke’s campus that shares your emotions and experiences. I guess the thing I learned about myself is that I have a lot of fun putting myself out there and not holding back in performances.
Q: What’s your favorite memory so far from your years at Duke?
A: My favorite Duke memory was performing with Rhythm and Blue at the Freshman Orientation A Cappella Concert this year. The crowd was enormous and extremely energetic! Singing in that concert was such a rush!
Q: Are you studying abroad? If so, where and why?
A: Im doing the Duke in London Drama Program this summer, because we will see over 30 plays and musicals while we are there, and learn from some of the best actors in London. In the fall, I’ll be attending the Duke in New York: Arts and Media program in order to get a head start in NYC and experience all that the city has to offer. I’m looking into getting an internship on Broadway.
Q: What’s your favorite dessert?
A: Anything with chocolate :)

A Sophomore, this Campus Cutie has made his mark on campus, as he is involved in a wide variety of activities at Conn… and he is definitely getting noticed for it. As one student gushed, “His smile and great sense of humor can make any girl giddy.” Another student shared, “He is actually one of the cutest boys on campus.” So, without further adieu, see what this heartthrob had to say…
Relationship Status: Single
Hometown: Tamil Nadu, India
Major: International Relations and Economics

Haven’t updated my music in quite a while but off the top of my head, Golden Age by Asteroid Galaxy Tour.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
Swimming alongside dolphins in the Pacific ocean.
How are you involved on campus?
I’m class president for the sophomore class and I’m a part of Vox Cameli, the finest a cappella group in New England. Besides that, I work at the Help Desk, Language and Culture Center and also with OVCS. I recently started a men’s hair cutting business… Let’s see how that goes.
What is your go-to Harris meal?
Honey-Nut cheerios in Vanilla soy milk with banana slices. Simple, yet delectable.
Who is your idol and why?
It’s a tie between Optimus Prime (for fairly obvious reasons) and Otto Frederick Rohwedder, inventor of the first loaf-at-a-time bread-slicing machine.
When not in class, where can you be found?
A lot of different places but mostly in the library, Harris or Liam Lawson’s room in Larabee. Pretty much anywhere where I can be around other people. You may also find me climbing trees around central campus.

Pleasantly surprised.

Name: Ramsey Scofield
Hometown: Rockville, Maryland
Year: Freshman, 2014
Major: Business and Economics double major
Favorite Coldstone Flavor: Birthday Cake with gummy bears and sprinkle toppings
Favorite Studying Spot: Davis, especially the 7th floor!
Fun Fact: This is kind of weird, but I can lick my elbow!
Motto: “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?”
Dream Job: A trophy husband! No, for real, a patent lawyer.
Favorite Restaurant on Franklin: BSki’s
Dream Vacation: Florence, Italy. I want to practice my Italian since I’m in Italian 101!
If You Could Change the World: I would put more hours in a day. There is never enough time to do the things I want!
Favorite City: Washington D.C. It’s close to my hometown and really picturesque. Plus, it’s full of important people and things!
Ramsey Scofield knew it was fate that led him to Carolina; after all, he and the mascot basically share the same name! He has had no problem transitioning to UNC, and he has made quite a name for himself around campus in the process. There is hardly a freshman on campus that has not met Ramsey or at least heard of him. An engaging and fun person with tons of personality, it would be difficult to forget meeting him. Ramsey enjoys music, singing, reading and hanging out with his friends. He also loves animals, especially dogs, and going to the beach every summer. Acting is one of Ramsey’s little-known interests, and he thinks it would be cool to spend a few years after college in the big city dabbling in the profession. Ramsey‘s favorite activity is being a member of UNC’s new coed a cappella group, the Tarpeggio’s. He loves simply sitting in the Pit and seeing all the different people and interesting things, taking long walks around campus and enjoying nature. Ramsey also is a die-hard fan of the basketball team and admits that it was one of the reasons he chose to attend Carolina.
Rushing Franklin after the winning game against Duke is one of his favorite memories so far from his freshman year. It is well-known that Ramsey gets asked to attend almost every sorority cocktail, which Ramsey describes as the best part of college for him. He jokes that his top goal at UNC is to become the honorary male member of a sorority before graduating. If you see Ramsey around campus, be sure to introduce yourself because he is always eager to meet new people!

Extra curriculars: A Cappella, Other Music Ensembles, Online Student Support Club
Relationship Status: Single
Her Campus Emory (HCE): How do you feel about being nominated as a Campus Cutie?
CJ (C): After declining to do it before, I feel like now is my chance to shine…
HCE: What is your biggest pet peeve?
C: People that see the world in black-and-white and are too literal for me to handle.
HCE: Name yourfavorite television show
C: It’s more of a series, but I would have to say Planet Earth. It just blows me away, no matter what state I’m in.
HCE: What would you say is the most unexpected thing about you?
C: Well, despite popular belief, CJ does not stand for Carmichael Jamal. But for real, I play a mean Smash, used to love Halo, and am pretty good at Call of Duty.
HCE: Describe your perfect date
C: Something outdoorsy and physically challenging, like hiking, or horseback riding with the intent of finding some secluded and beautiful place to “enjoy” together.
HCE: What is your weirdest quality?
C: I don’t think I could possibly nail one thing down in particular, but I do tend to break out into song spontaneously and loudly in many different types of public places. This has gotten me more head turns than any other weird thing about me.
HCE: If you were on a desert island and could only bring 3 things, what would they be and why?
C: My best friend Madeline, a piano, and some wine.
