James Charles Is The Groundbreaking New CoverGirl

YES to inclusion! Yesterday, CoverGirl announced their first-ever male ambassador, 17-year-old James Charles, whose love of makeup landed him the groundbreaking new role.

“I was shook and didn’t believe it at first,” he said in an interview with Cosmopolitan.com about the moment he found out. “When I found out it was a real opportunity, I literally screamed and then cried, I was so excited.”

It’s a highly coveted role—James will be appearing in ads alongside Katy Perry, and his partnership includes the launch of CoverGirl’s So Lashy! mascara.

James told Cosmopolitan.com that it was his love of drawing and all things creative that made him pursue makeup in the first place. As for where he picked those skills up? “YouTube videos and practice have taught me all I know,” he claims. But even with over 430k followers, he isn’t always able to escape the inevitable haters. He doesn’t spend time caring about it though: “I’ve got way more important things to worry about!” Yeah, like starring in CoverGirl shoots alongside Katy Perry.

It’s no surprise that his fierce attitude and flawless talent got him recognized by CoverGirl. His bold personality and fearlessness is exactly what made the makeup giant so excited to bring him on board.

“All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful,” CoverGirl revealed in a press release. “James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to women, men, guys and girls who might have been afraid to do the same.”
