Here's Everything We Know About the 2019 Met Gala So Far

You heard it here: Vogue has announced the theme for the 2019 Met Gala and people are buzzing! From iconic hosts to an unconventional yet totally exciting theme, next year's gala is set to be so extraordinary we can hardly wait.

The Theme

It’s out with the old and in with the….camp?

As tradition would have it, the theme for the exhibition is appropriately the theme of the Gala itself and guests are expected to dress accordingly. Next year’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme is inspired by writer-activist Susan Sontag’s profound 1964 essay titled "Notes on Camp". While most of you are probably envisioning fireside s'mores and tents under the night sky, this "camp" is described by Sontag as being "a certain mode of aestheticism" and having an essence of "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration". In other words, "camp" is a way of looking at things and realizing they aren't what they are initially perceived to be, a blend of art and pop culture. We're definitely going to have to leave it up to the celebs and their stylists to make the idea of "camp" uber-clear!

The Hosts

Professional tennis player Serena Williams, former One Direction member Harry Styles, and the one and only Lady Gaga are set to host the 2019 Met Gala and we. are. pumped. These iconic three have been making waves recently with Serena dressing outside the norms of tennis matches and launching her own fashion line, Harry being the face of Gucci Men's Tailoring Campaign, and Lady Gaga being, well, Lady Gaga

Mexico City One, Live On Tour.

According to Vogue's announcement, the gala will take place on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, preceding the exhibition which will run from May 9 - Sept. 8, 2019. Until then, we'll be reliving last year's Heavenly Bodies themed gala and try to contain our excitement.
