Today is such a bittersweet day since it’s Earth Day (yay!), but it’s also unfortunately my last post as one of the Earth Lovers Three Minute Shower Challenge Bloggers (boo). Taking only three-minute showers for the past few weeks has shown me that it’s not hard to make a difference—you just have to stick with it. Make a game plan. Set short goals, and then when you see how easily new habits can become over time, incorporate it into your permanent routine.
Although at first I didn’t believe it was even possible to take a three-minute shower, now that I’ve taken fourteen, I feel like it almost comes natural, and that I’m now able to tackle other healthy lifestyle changes (maybe going vegan??). I’ve learned so much more about water conservation these past couple of weeks, and I hope that you’ve all learned a lot as well. It’s much more meaningful to celebrate Earth Day when you know why we have a holiday devoted just to Earth.
But regardless, whether you’ve been taking three-minute showers when I started to, or if you’ve been too scared to attempt one, you should definitely be celebrating Earth Day. (If you need some pointers on how to start, click here!) Everyone from Self Magazine to Starbucks to your local farmer’s market is celebrating Earth Day by “going green” and conserving natural resources. I’m so impressed with how much people are aware of our environment and getting involved to help keep it in its best shape. People around the world from the in vogue societies of the fashion and beauty industries to the techies at Google and Yahoo are all working to promote Earth Day—and it’s definitely not a lost cause.
And the three-minute showers won’t stop here. Now that I’ve gotten used to sleeping in and not spending as much time in the shower, I don’t think I could revert back to my old ways (or at least for a while). I like knowing that I could possibly be completely showered and ready for anything in less than twenty minutes, when it used to take twenty minutes just to take my shower. So if you haven’t tried it yet, celebrate Earth Day by trying to take your next shower in under three minutes. Or consider going meatless a few times a week. Or bring in your coffee tumbler next time you go to get coffee. The possibilities for Earth Day are endless. Just because we celebrate Earth Day doesn’t mean you have to restrict your doing good to just 24 hours. Today is just the beginning of your own billion acts of green.
xoxo
