The time of year is upon us. The sun will no longer set after 8 pm, the leaves on the trees are slowly turning colors, Bath & Body Works has released their fall candle line and we are slowly trading in tinted moisturizers for full coverage foundation. As the seasons change and we return to campus, you want to ensure you’re starting the semester in style with the latest beauty trends.
While there are many ways to discover the next big thing – your favorite TikToker or the Kardashian’s latest Instagram post, the best way to discover the next beauty trends is from the runway itself. Designers such as Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo tapped their creative beauty teams for their fall 2022 runway collections, and as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Through the magic of pumpkin spice lattes and the latest fashion shows, here are Her Campus’ predictions for this fall’s beauty trends.
Bold red lip
Let’s face it – you can never go wrong with a good red lipstick. While the past two years have had a focus on clean beauty and minimalism, this fall be prepared to ramp things up with a bold lip look. According to a study from the National Library of Medicine conducted in 2010, red lips have been considered attractive in women in geographically and temporally diverse cultures. With so many shades and variations of textures, a red lip will be the perfect thing to add a pop of color to your everyday routine or add a little bit of sexiness to your day. My personal favorite – the Black Radiance Perfect Tone Lip Color in ‘Reggae Red.’
Smokey eye
Okay, so maybe when you think of smokey eyes, you think circa early 2000’s when it looked like someone just took a black marker and scribbled over your face. Throw everything you knew about smokey eyes out of the window because deep and dark is back in style.
Now called the modern smokey eye, the style features the classic ‘90s style but is bigger and bolder. Deep black eyeshadow gives a winged look, while mascara and light glitter give mysterious and enchanting — hey, they do say that the eyes are the windows to the soul — and a smokey eye is a perfect match to a black heart.
Siren eyes & doe eyes
Bouncing off of the smokey eye craze, siren eyes are the latest challenge for anyone who wants to take on doing eyeliner freehanded (best of luck!). Siren eyes are the latest TikTok trend to achieve sexy eyeliner for those with hooded eyes (AKA me).
While siren eyes detail a sexy cat eye look, doe eyes are more to accentuate the beautiful innocence of the eyes. Doe eyes aim to highlight the cuteness of the eyes – instead of doing a sharp, lined wing, doe eyeliner is rounded out with a doe-like flick at the end, finished with a dot of highlighter in the corner of the eye. If sultry isn’t your style, sweeten things up with a doe eye.
Sparkly inner corners
If you’re like me and sometimes struggle with traditional winged eyeliner, this one’s for you. As someone who struggles with amblyopia — also known as a lazy eye — doing winged eyeliner on my hooded eyes can be quite daunting and not always feel flattering. I started to switch up my routine with bold graphic eyeliner though, and that made all the difference! Graphic liner took off on TikTok but is adhering to the minimalist, simple but beautiful makeup trend that has taken over this year. Heavy eyeshadow and bronzing are out (sorry, Kim K!) and dewy finish and neon colors are in.
Get creative with abstract lines or squiggly space art to accentuate the uniqueness of yourself and your look. The best part? You don’t need to be an artist to achieve a beautiful graphic look.
Bleached brows
If you would have told me that bleaching my eyebrows would have made me ‘trendy’ in 2022, I would have laughed at you. But, it turns out celebs like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid are onto something.
The stark contrast adds a certain coolness to your face, especially if you have dark hair. In fact it was so popular, TikTok even created a filter to show people what they would look like with bleached brows. If you’re feeling bold and want to go for it, make sure you see a professional as it does require the same level of toning and care as the hair on your head.
