How to Destress During Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Youngstown chapter.

Finals week for everyone can be kind of hectic no matter how smart you may be or how hard you study. The most important thing for you to do is not stress so much. You will test better if you are well-rested and have good energy. Here are some ways to destress during finals week so you can pass them in a breeze.

Change of Environment

Sometimes a change of scenery can help with studying. If you usually study in your room, try somewhere else in your house like the dining room. Maybe even go outside and study there.

Practice Breathing Exercises

It’s easy to work yourself up if you are not catching onto a topic or subject. Take a step back and breathe. This can help you focus better!

Meditate

Again with breathing, it’s nice to just sit a quiet place altogether and not worry about anything. Your mental health is important and finals week can mess this up if you don’t take care of yourself.

Drink Tea

Drinking liquids high in sugar can be bad for you, so I would recommend lots of water. However, the lack of flavor can bother some people so you can try drinking tea – tea also has caffeine in it so it can help you stay awake when pulling an all-nighter, and it’s also very soothing. Some teas include: Green, Peppermint, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, etc..

Return to Nature

Go outside for some fresh air, go for a walk or run, maybe a hike. It’s good to get your body moving so you’re not just sitting down for hours on end.

Write in a Journal

Maybe your thoughts are racing in your head and you can’t focus. It’s nice to write things down or just get creative and draw. Taking a break from studying and writing about other things can help make sure you don’t get extremely bored and tired of the same thing over and over again.

Take a Nap

Remember to get lots of rest; there is no point in studying nonstop if you’re going to be falling asleep during your test. Sleep is good for your health and the soul. Study hard; but remember to not overwork yourself!
