Why You Shouldn’t Feel Bad About Going To Therapy

Hello everyone! This article is going to be all about the assumptions some hold about going to therapy and why you (bluntly put) shouldn’t care! I am also going to talk about going to therapy even when you don’t necessarily feel like you need it, or overcoming the anxiety you may feel about going to therapy. My goal for this article is to make going to therapy a less sensitive subject because, at the end of the day, if it helps your mental health, it shouldn’t matter to anyone else!

The first point I want to touch on is some of the negative connotations that exist around going to therapy. Hearing these can make individuals feel discouraged about going to therapy, to even start thinking about going.

The thing you need to remember is that your feelings are valid and you need to take care of yourself. So, if going to therapy is something you feel you need to do, just do it!

Now, I would like to touch on the topic about going to therapy, even if you don’t feel like you necessarily need it. There are lots of different reasons people go to therapy. Some people have a therapist just to see when life gets a little bit too much every once and a while. For example, as we head into November, with the colder temperatures and sun setting earlier, many people start to feel the wintertime blues.

This is also known in psychology as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The effects of this can seem small and insignificant, but as they rack up it can start to have more of an impact on your daily routine. Seeing a therapist, even just to talk about those things that may seem small and insignificant, can be more than helpful to your daily mental health.

To conclude my article today, you should simply never feel bad about going to therapy, whether it be for a small reason, a big reason, or if anyone makes you feel like you shouldn’t. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, as long as you are doing what you need to do to take care of your own mental health in a positive way.

Sometimes life can get a little overwhelming, but so can the feelings of guilt or thinking you’re not doing a good job. You could feel that you would like to seek therapy, but may feel anxiety about pursuing that journey. The anxiety can come from different places, like fear of the unknown and fear of judgement. These are hurdles that you have to understand the reality of and overcome to get the help you need. Putting the anxiety aside can be really really scary, but you have to do what’s best for you, despite what anyone else or your mind tells you.
